Prince Harry reportedly offered up a brutal three-word response to David Beckham after the footballing star once arrived to help out at the Invictus Games in Australia.
Over the years the pair had cemented a good relationship
that at one point saw the Beckhams host Meghan Markle in their six-bedroom Beverly Hills mansion before her wedding.
But things have deteriorated after various snubs with the ex-footballer also reportedly irking Harry by maintaining a good relationship with his feuding family.
And royal commentator Emily Andrews has now recalled a particularly tense moment back in 2018 when Becks was invited to the Invictus Games in Sydney by Harry.
Things culminated after Harry is believed to have invited the footballer, while a guest at his wedding in 2018, to the Invictus Games in Sydney.
The Paralympics sports event for wounded servicemen and women, founded by Harry in 2014, was supposed to be a highlight of the Sussexes’ first tour of Australia.
But upon arrival David was reportedly confused when Harry appeared to be avoiding him. Writing in Woman, Emily revealed a source told her at the time: “Becks was personally invited and duly came, along with sons Cruz and Romeo. When he arrived in Sydney, he asked what Harry’s schedule was so he could attend the same events.”
Harry’s response, when he found out, was said to be a blunt: “What the f**k? He should be coming to support the games, not have his pictures taken with me.” The source continued: “When we pointed out that having a picture of them together would be great for Invictus coverage, he then said he never wanted to be in a picture with him.
“That then meant a ridiculous two-step to try and ensure that they were never pictured together.” The source went on to describe a moment at the wheelchair basketball where Beckham was sitting with dignitaries, where Harry and Meghan were meant to be sat.
“So a whole area on the other side of the court had to be cleared of spectators and filled with Australian military, so Harry and Meghan could sit there instead,” the source added. The royal ‘snub’ was thought to be sparked possibly by the new duchess’s dislike of any competition from Victoria on her maiden royal tour.
It has since been suggested the Sussexes fell out with the Beckhams because Meghan believed they had leaked stories to the press.
A source told The Sun in 2020: “Harry was very polite, but obviously it was a pretty awkward exchange and David was mortified. Inexplicably, [Meghan] feared Victoria was behind it — I mean, the idea that Victoria Beckham would be personally ringing journalists to give them a scoop is ridiculous — and spoke to Harry about it.
“Harry is very protective of Meghan, and decided to deal with the matter head-on, by directly contacting his good pal, David. He quickly put Harry right, and the two men agreed to move on — but it certainly made things awkward for a while.”
