Meghan Markle’s ‘cringe-worthy’ return to spotlight kicks off second attempt at Netflix stardom

Meghan Markle’s return to the public eye has been met with mixed reactions,

especially as her latest venture marks her second attempt at establishing herself as a prominent figure in the entertainment world.

The Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from royal duties alongside her husband Prince Harry in 2020,

has since sought to carve out a new career path in Hollywood, and particularly through the realm of streaming services.

This latest move has drawn both anticipation and criticism, with many labeling her comeback as “cringe-worthy.”

Markle’s first foray into the world of streaming was through a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix, which she and Harry signed in 2020.

The couple promised to produce a variety of content, from documentaries to scripted series. Their first project, the controversial docuseries *Harry & Meghan*, was released in late 2022 and revealed intimate details about the couple’s personal lives, their struggles with the royal family, and their efforts to find a sense of freedom away from the royal spotlight. While the docuseries was highly anticipated, it received mixed reviews. Critics praised its candidness but also accused the couple of using it to further their personal agenda.

In this new phase of her career, Meghan Markle is attempting to recapture the public’s attention, but it seems that her return is falling flat for some. Markle’s decision to appear in a series of high-profile public engagements has led some to question whether her approach is in tune with what audiences actually want to see. Critics have been quick to label her public reappearance as “cringe-worthy,” pointing to her attempts to embody a public persona that seems disjointed from her previous royal image.

Markle’s recent projects, including an upcoming podcast and her active role in promoting content under her Archewell Productions banner, have not been as successful as she might have hoped. The podcast *Archetypes* received mixed reactions, with some praising her deep dive into the complexities of gender, identity, and societal expectations, while others found her discussions overly scripted and lacking authenticity. Some listeners even called her out for seeming disconnected from the struggles of everyday people, making her relatable to a narrow audience at best.

Her latest project is once again in collaboration with Netflix, though specifics about the content remain scarce. Many speculate that she may be venturing into scripted television, a space that has become increasingly competitive with the rise of powerhouse creators like Shonda Rhimes, Ryan Murphy, and others. Markle’s place in this arena has not been solidified, and her past failures have cast doubt on her ability to succeed in this highly demanding field.

The growing criticism of Meghan Markle’s public return is not just about the content she is producing but also about her approach to fame. Many argue that her desire to remain relevant has led her to adopt a performative persona that feels at odds with the image of privacy and authenticity that she once championed. Her ongoing relationship with the media, both in her personal life and through the projects she chooses to endorse, has led to an increase in public scrutiny, with many calling out her seeming contradictions.

Despite the negative feedback, Meghan Markle remains determined to build a career independent of the royal family. She and Prince Harry have worked tirelessly to make their mark in the entertainment industry, using their platform to advocate for causes like racial equality, mental health, and climate change. But as she continues to launch new projects, her efforts appear to be more polarizing than ever. Critics suggest that her ‘second attempt at Netflix stardom’ may need a more thoughtful approach if she’s to avoid the “cringe-worthy” label that continues to follow her.

Meghan Markle’s journey has been one filled with highs and lows, from her acting career on *Suits* to her royal duties and now her quest to establish herself in the streaming world. Whether her second attempt at Netflix stardom will be more successful than her first remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Meghan is not ready to fade into the background just yet.
