Joy Behar Reveals Her Agent Told Her Not to Work on ‘The View’

Joy Behar, one of the longest-running co-hosts of *The View*,

recently revealed a surprising piece of advice she once received from her agent early in her career on the popular daytime talk show.

In a candid moment, Behar shared that her agent had actually told her not to take the job on *The View*, a suggestion that would have drastically changed the course of her career.

Behar’s admission sheds light on the risks she faced when she initially joined the show

and highlights her resilience in pursuing a path that would eventually make her a household name.

The veteran television personality, known for her sharp wit, candid opinions, and no-nonsense attitude, made the revelation during a recent interview.

Behar, who has been with *The View* since its inception in 1997 (with a brief hiatus in the early 2010s), spoke openly about the early days of her involvement with the show and the skepticism surrounding it. According to Behar, her agent, who was looking out for her best interests at the time, didn’t see *The View* as a fitting opportunity for her career. The advice to avoid taking the job was rooted in concerns about the nature of the show and its potential impact on her professional trajectory.

The agent’s reasoning was likely based on the unconventional format of *The View* and its less predictable nature compared to other traditional talk shows. *The View* was a groundbreaking concept when it first premiered, with its unique blend of diverse women from various backgrounds discussing current events, social issues, and entertainment with often heated debates and passionate discussions. It was a stark departure from the more scripted and structured talk shows that dominated the daytime television landscape at the time. The show’s format was bold, and its dynamic of having multiple outspoken women sharing their opinions was a risk that could have backfired.

However, Behar, known for her fearlessness and desire to speak her mind, chose to go against her agent’s advice and took the leap into *The View*. Her decision turned out to be one of the best moves of her career. Over the years, Behar has become a beloved figure on the show, earning a reputation for being both funny and insightful, and for tackling tough subjects with humor and compassion. She’s often been the voice of reason in heated discussions, and her quick wit and willingness to challenge the status quo have endeared her to fans.

Reflecting on her decision to join *The View*, Behar acknowledged that it was a leap of faith, but one that paid off in ways she never could have imagined. “I didn’t listen to him, and I’m glad I didn’t,” she said, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to be part of a show that would go on to have a profound impact on both television and the national conversation. *The View* helped pave the way for other talk shows that featured diverse perspectives and invited more candid and open discussions about real-world issues.

While her agent’s concerns were understandable, considering the uncertainty surrounding the show’s format, Behar’s instincts were spot-on. Her presence on *The View* has allowed her to build a loyal fanbase, become a prominent voice in American television, and continue to shape important conversations. Her enduring success on the show is a testament to her ability to trust her own judgment, even when faced with doubts from those closest to her.

As one of the original co-hosts, Behar has seen the show evolve over the years, with multiple cast changes and shifts in the political and social landscape. Through it all, she has remained a constant presence, providing both comedic relief and thoughtful commentary. Her ability to navigate the shifting tides of the show while staying true to her authentic self is part of what has made her such a beloved figure.

Today, Behar is recognized as one of the most influential and enduring personalities in daytime television. Her journey from hesitant career advice to becoming a cornerstone of *The View* is a powerful example of how taking risks and trusting one’s instincts can lead to great success. While her agent may have had valid concerns at the time, Behar’s decision to follow her gut has proven to be a defining moment in her career, one that helped solidify her place in television history.

As *The View* continues to tackle important issues with its diverse panel of voices, Behar remains a key figure in its ongoing legacy. Her journey is a reminder that sometimes the best opportunities come from taking risks, trusting your instincts, and having the courage to go against the advice of others—something Behar has done time and time again throughout her illustrious career.
