‘It’s giving mean girl’: Resurfaced clip shows Blake Lively taking a dig at Gossip Girl co-star’s prison birth

Blake Lively has become the subject of renewed controversy as she faces mounting scrutiny over her past behavior,

particularly in light of her ongoing legal battle with *It Ends With Us* director and co-star, Justin Baldoni.

While Lively maintains a composed and calm exterior amid the drama, some troubling resurfaced clips from her past have led fans to question

whether her public persona of the charming, relatable star is more fiction than reality.

One of the most talked-about instances that fans believe points to Lively’s “mean girl” tendencies is her time on the iconic show *Gossip Girl*.

As Serena van der Woodsen, Lively portrayed the effortlessly glamorous, sometimes naïve, best friend to Leighton Meester’s Blair Waldorf.

Despite their on-screen chemistry, it was well-known that the two actresses had a difficult relationship off-screen. Now, with old footage making its way back into the spotlight, fans are starting to see a pattern that paints Lively in a more negative light.

In a resurfaced panel discussion, which originally appeared on TikTok and eventually spread across social media platforms, Lively is seen making several dismissive comments about her co-star Leighton Meester, leading many to believe that she was attempting to steal the spotlight during the discussion. The panel, which included both actresses, seemed to have moments where Lively interrupted and overshadowed Leighton. For example, when Leighton responded to a question about her character Blair being brunette, Lively chimed in with a flippant remark, saying, “blondes are more fun anyway.” The comment, made with no context or relevance to the conversation, struck many as unnecessary and rude.

However, it was one particular moment during the panel that left a lasting negative impression on viewers. Lively, once again interrupting Leighton, casually commented, “Well, some of us started in a cage,” accompanied by a dismissive shrug in Leighton’s direction. The statement, which landed awkwardly in the room, referenced Leighton’s difficult childhood—she was born while her parents were serving federal sentences for their involvement in an international drug trafficking operation.

Lively’s comment was met with a cold silence from the audience, prompting her to quickly follow up with a hasty, “Come on, it was a joke! Lord have mercy.” While Lively tried to downplay the awkwardness, her poorly timed comment only served to highlight her insensitivity. Fans quickly jumped online, pointing out the cruelty of making a joke about something so personal and painful to Leighton. Many expressed disappointment in Lively’s behavior, with some commenters stating, “Making a joke at someone’s expense is very telling that you have a low-class mentality,” while others said, “Always joking, but in reality, being mean.”

For many fans, this incident is just another example of Lively’s past behavior, where humor was used as a cover for her more cutting and thoughtless comments. While her actions at the time were not widely discussed, the resurfacing of these old moments reveals a different side to Lively than the one she often projects in public today.

As Lively navigates the professional challenges in her current life, it’s clear that her past is still catching up with her. Some fans have pointed out that these resurfaced moments are just another chapter in a career that has not been without its controversies, with the most recent being her legal struggles with Baldoni. Yet, despite these challenging situations, Lively continues to put on a brave face, showing little indication that she’s shaken by the fallout from these old clips.

The resurfacing of her past has brought forward mixed opinions on Lively’s character. For some, it’s a reminder that the world of Hollywood isn’t as glamorous as it may seem, with personal rivalries and missteps hidden behind the carefully curated public images of its stars. For others, these clips only add to the “mean girl” narrative that has followed Lively throughout her career.

While Lively may have a lot of work to do in order to fully distance herself from the image of a spoiled starlet, her past behavior remains a reminder of the complexities of fame. It also serves as a cautionary tale about how seemingly innocent moments can have lasting consequences in the world of social media, where nothing truly fades away.

As the public continues to weigh in on Lively’s past, only time will tell how much this scrutiny will affect her reputation moving forward. But for now, it’s clear that her previous remarks have left many questioning just how “mean” she might have been behind the scenes.
