Prince Harry ‘rejects offer to stay with royal family’ during upcoming UK trip

Prince Harry is preparing for his return to the United Kingdom next week, although it appears unlikely that he will be reconciling with the royal family during his visit.

The Duke of Sussex is set to attend his High Court trial against News Group Newspapers,

but recent reports suggest he is maintaining his distance from his relatives, continuing the feud that has played out over the past few years.

In the midst of the ongoing royal rift, Harry was reportedly offered the option of staying at Buckingham Palace during his trip.

However, sources indicate that he has declined this offer, choosing instead to stay elsewhere, as he did during his previous visit in September.

On that occasion, Harry opted to stay at his uncle Charles Spencer’s residence, Althorp, in Northamptonshire, rather than at any royal residence.

This upcoming trip marks another chapter in the strained relationship between Harry and his family, which has been marred by a series of disagreements and public controversies. While Harry’s visit is tied to his legal proceedings, sources suggest that his interactions with the royal family will be minimal, and no major family reunions are expected.

Amid his legal battle, Harry’s security arrangements have also been a significant point of contention. It has been confirmed that the Duke will be granted limited police protection while in the UK. A source revealed that the Metropolitan Police will provide Harry with armed officers from the Royalty and Specialist Protection Command during his stay. However, due to staff shortages, the police are reportedly recruiting officers on their days off to provide this protection.

The issue of Harry’s security has been a major topic of debate since he stepped back from his royal duties in 2020. After leaving the royal family, his security detail was significantly downgraded, and Harry has since sought to restore it to previous levels. In 2022, he lost a legal challenge against the government regarding his right to police protection while visiting the UK. The court ruled that the decision to revoke his security was not irrational, leaving Harry’s security entitlements subject to a case-by-case review by the Metropolitan Police.

Harry’s ongoing struggle to secure protection highlights the broader tensions between him and the British royal family. In response to the court’s ruling, the Home Office has stated that Harry’s security arrangements will be determined based on a perceived-risk basis, similar to how security is allocated for other VIP visitors to the UK.

The rift between Harry and his family deepened after his decision to step down from royal duties alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2020. Since then, the couple has been outspoken about their challenges with the royal family, sharing their experiences in public interviews, books, and documentaries. These revelations, coupled with Harry’s memoir *Spare*, have led to heightened tensions with key family members, including Prince William and King Charles.

The relationship between Harry and his brother, Prince William, remains particularly strained, with sources suggesting that William feels personally attacked by Harry’s actions and statements in recent years. A source close to the royal family claimed that Prince William has “no plans” to reunite with Harry, further solidifying the growing divide between the brothers.

Despite the ongoing conflict, both Harry and Meghan continue to pursue their own independent projects and endeavors. Meghan has ventured into the world of television and activism, while Harry has focused on mental health advocacy, as well as legal battles concerning his treatment by the media and government.

In recent months, there has been speculation that some members of the royal family may be open to reconciliation with Harry, but the road to healing seems long and fraught with obstacles. The Duke’s decision to visit the UK for his trial does not appear to be a step toward a family reunion, as both sides remain entrenched in their positions.

As Harry prepares for his trip next week, all eyes will be on his interactions with the British public, the media, and his royal relatives. However, it seems that, for now, the Duke of Sussex’s relationship with his family remains firmly at an impasse, with the chances of a significant reunion or resolution seeming slim. With tensions still high, it appears that Prince Harry’s return to the UK will be marked more by legal battles and security concerns than by any potential reconciliation with his family.
