Martha Stewart is no stranger to the spotlight, but even after facing prison time and a very public legal battle, it seems there’s still some unfinished business for the lifestyle mogul. 

In a recent appearance on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*, Stewart revealed that she was once asked to host *Saturday Night Live* shortly after her release from prison in 2005. 

However, her plans were squashed when her parole officer reportedly prevented her from taking the gig.

Stewart’s legal troubles are well-known. In 2004, the homemaking mogul was convicted on charges of conspiracy, obstruction, 

and making false statements to investigators, stemming from a stock-trading scandal. 

She served five months in prison at Alderson Federal Prison Camp, followed by five months of house arrest and two years of supervised probation. 

The conviction, which was highly publicized at the time, caused a major setback in her career. Despite the time behind bars, Stewart remained resilient, bouncing back with a renewed career trajectory.

However, during her conversation with Jimmy Fallon, Stewart shared a surprising piece of history about an opportunity that never came to fruition. As the two discussed the possibility of Stewart hosting *SNL*, she revealed that she had, in fact, been asked to take on the hosting duties shortly after her release from prison. Unfortunately, her parole officer did not allow her the freedom to leave her home for the appearance.

“I wanted to [host *SNL*] and they asked me as I was coming out of Alderson, that camp that I was in for a while, and my parole officer wouldn’t give me the time to do it,” Stewart admitted, referencing the Federal Prison Camp in West Virginia where she served her sentence. 

Stewart continued, explaining that she was allowed only eight hours out of her house each day. She also joked about her frustration with the situation, saying, “No, that b*****d,” referring to her parole officer with a laugh, adding, “I still have his name and number.” Despite the disappointment, Stewart said she’s still open to the idea of hosting the iconic late-night sketch comedy show. “Maybe someday,” she added with a chuckle, hinting that she might still be interested in making it happen, even after all these years.

The topic of hosting *SNL* came up after Fallon asked Stewart if she would consider the opportunity, to which she responded with humor and enthusiasm. Fallon also speculated on how “fantastic” Stewart would be as a host, suggesting that a campaign should be started to get her on the show. 

Stewart’s time in prison is a significant chapter in her life, and she has been open about it in the past. In a 2021 interview with *Harper’s Bazaar*, Stewart explained how she approached her prison sentence. “I knew I was strong going in and I was certainly stronger coming out,” she reflected, adding that she wasn’t “bitter” about the experience but acknowledged the long-lasting effects it had on her life.

She expanded on her thoughts during her 2024 Netflix documentary *Martha*, which delves into her time in prison and its impact on her personal and professional life. Stewart admitted that the experience wasn’t something she took lightly, stating, “It was a very serious happening in my life. I take it very seriously. I’m not bitter about it, but… My daughter knows all the problems that resulted because of that. There’s a lot.” 

In the same *Tonight Show* appearance, Stewart also discussed her recent work and her involvement in a Super Bowl teaser ad for Uber Eats, where she appeared alongside pop star Charli XCX. In the commercial, the duo engaged in a TikTok trend called “We Listen and We Don’t Judge,” in which they shared honest thoughts about one another without the ability to judge. It was a lighthearted moment that showcased Stewart’s playful side, even as she continues to reflect on the more serious aspects of her life and career.

Despite the obstacles she faced, Stewart has maintained her iconic status in American culture. While *SNL* might have been off the table back in 2005, fans will undoubtedly be rooting for her to take the stage on the show someday soon.
