‘I won MasterChef and Gregg Wallace showed his true colours with one move’

Alex Webb, the winner of *MasterChef: The Professionals* in 2020, has opened up about a touching and personal gesture from host Gregg Wallace that he will “never forget.”

The chef shared his story during an exclusive interview with *Express.co.uk*, highlighting the kindness he received from Wallace after the tragic passing of his father.

In the midst of his *MasterChef* journey, Alex’s father was seriously ill, and sadly, he passed away shortly after the competition aired.

While this was an incredibly difficult time for Alex, he was able to take comfort in the thoughtful gesture from the show’s host.

Wallace, known for his straightforward and sometimes blunt demeanor, surprised Alex with a heartfelt Christmas message that deeply moved him.

“I don’t really want to comment on the recent furore [surrounding Gregg], but I can only speak from personal experience,” Alex began.

“My dad passed away just after the show, so luckily he got to watch the show. But Greg did a lovely message for him, and he sent it to him at Christmas time.”

Alex explained that the timing of the message meant a great deal to both him and his family. His father, who was in the hospital at the time, was able to receive the message, and the emotional gesture helped lift their spirits during a difficult holiday season. “So, having Christmas and dad was in hospital, and so things like that, he did a lovely message, and I’ll never forget that,” Alex added.

The impact of this gesture was profound. Alex recalled how his father, grateful for the personal note from the celebrity chef, made sure to thank Gregg. “And he [his dad] said, ‘Thank you so much, make sure you thank him.’ So he was really lovely for that,” Alex reflected with a sense of gratitude.

Despite the media storm that has often surrounded Gregg Wallace, especially in recent months, Alex’s tribute to his kindness shows a different side of the host. In a world often focused on controversies and headlines, this simple act of compassion stands as a reminder of the positive influence public figures can have, particularly when they offer support during times of personal tragedy.

Alex’s story offers insight into the often-overlooked aspects of life behind the scenes of reality television. While the public often sees the competitive nature of shows like *MasterChef*, it’s moments like these that highlight the human side of the people involved. For Alex, it was a reminder that kindness can go a long way, especially when it comes from someone who is also experiencing the pressures of being in the public eye.

This experience also speaks to the bonds that can form between contestants and presenters on shows like *MasterChef*. In addition to the professional challenges of competing in a high-stakes culinary environment, personal connections are made that extend far beyond the kitchen. Gregg Wallace’s gesture was a testament to the fact that, despite the intense competition and the scrutiny that comes with being in the spotlight, there is room for humanity and kindness.

In the face of personal loss, Alex Webb was able to find solace in the support of his *MasterChef* family, particularly Gregg Wallace, whose kindness will remain a cherished memory for the winner. The episode serves as a powerful reminder that even the smallest gestures can have a profound impact on someone’s life during their most difficult moments.

While the world of television and celebrity can often be clouded by scandals and controversies, Alex’s story showcases a more heartwarming side of the industry—a side that emphasizes empathy, kindness, and the power of simple human connection.
