‘SNL’s Chloe Fineman On Why She Didn’t Impersonate Timothée Chalamet & Why Actor “Wasn’t Really Having” Her Sketch Suggestions

Timothée Chalamet’s recent appearance on *Saturday Night Live* (SNL) marked a historic moment as he pulled double duty as both the guest host and musical guest.

The actor, known for his roles in *Call Me by Your Name* and *Dune*, showcased his comedic chops alongside the talented SNL cast.

Among those working closely with him was Chloe Fineman, who had previously impersonated Chalamet on the show.

However, as Fineman shared during a recent appearance on *Watch What Happens Live* with Andy Cohen, not all of her ideas for sketches with Chalamet came to life,

particularly one involving a playful homage to the movie *Babygirl*.

Fineman, known for her sharp comedic sensibilities and impersonations, was eager to bring her quirky ideas to the table for Chalamet’s hosting gig.

One idea, in particular, was to create a sketch inspired by a famous scene from *Babygirl*, a film starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson. The scene features Kidman’s character in a dramatic and somewhat sensual moment. Fineman, however, pitched a twist on the scene for her sketch with Chalamet. She jokingly suggested they could re-create the moment with Chalamet in the role of a milk-giving figure, a playful and absurd idea that didn’t quite resonate with the actor.

On *Watch What Happens Live*, Fineman reflected on the pitch, saying, “I pitched a lot of us touching, or like Babygirl and he’s giving me milk. And he wasn’t really having that milk-Babygirl stuff.” The suggestion was clearly too outlandish for Chalamet, and he wasn’t interested in participating in such a bizarre direction, which led to the idea being scrapped. This candid moment from Fineman gave fans a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes process of creating comedy sketches for the live show.

Despite this creative clash, Fineman has been known for her own take on Timothée Chalamet in her recurring impersonations on SNL. Over the years, she has expertly mimicked the actor’s unique mannerisms and distinctive voice, becoming a fan favorite in the process. However, during Chalamet’s hosting stint, Fineman did not reprise her impersonation of the actor, leaving fans wondering what could have been. Fineman herself hinted at a possible shift in her approach, revealing that she feels a more personal connection with Chalamet now that they have worked together more closely.

“I’ve been saying, I feel like I’ve done it twice already this year without him,” Fineman explained on the show. “I really feel like I’m leaning more, like, L word.” When host Andy Cohen pressed her for more details, Fineman playfully responded, “I dunno. I’m a lot older than him. I just feel like I’m this cool les lady. I just feel like I’m like two lesbians.”

Fineman’s lighthearted comment about the dynamic between her and Chalamet showcases the chemistry that has developed between the two over their shared experiences on *SNL*. She seemed to acknowledge the slight awkwardness of playing the role of an older woman in these sketches, noting that she sometimes wore Chalamet’s real-life clothing for her impersonations. “I feel like this weird older woman, being like, ‘Hey little boy, can I put your sweatpants on?’” Fineman joked. She further elaborated, “Cause I’ve worn his — sometimes I’ll wear his real clothes doing it, which was really fun.” It’s clear that Fineman has enjoyed pushing the boundaries of their playful dynamic and bringing her own creative touch to her sketches with the actor.

Their interactions on and off the stage have become a highlight of Chalamet’s time on *SNL*, showcasing the fun and playful spirit of the show. While the milk-themed sketch may have been a no-go, Fineman’s humor and willingness to experiment with ideas are a testament to her creative process on the show. As *SNL* continues to evolve, it will be exciting to see what other comedic moments arise between Fineman and Chalamet, who, despite their differing approaches to humor, clearly share a mutual respect for each other’s craft.

Ultimately, Timothée Chalamet’s *SNL* appearance was a major success, with memorable moments that showcased his versatility as both a host and a musical performer. Chloe Fineman, ever the comedic powerhouse, added her own brand of humor to the evening, even if it didn’t involve her signature Timothée impersonation.

With more collaborations between these two talented stars in the future, fans can expect more hilarious moments, both on and off the stage.
