She’s taking a page out of the Lily James/”Cinderella” playbook.
Emma Watson has been busy making the rounds to promote “Beauty and the Beast” over the past few weeks, and in that time, she’s been chronicling her looks on Instagram.
But Watson’s not documenting her style choices (which have been nothing short of elegant) solely for the likes: she’s on a mission to bring attention to sustainable fabrics.
That’s admirable and not super-surprising, given that Watson is a socially minded activist, but as it turns out, she’s also very skilled at looking like a princess.
We were reminded of that during a promotional event in New York City on Monday.
When the actress wore a pale yellow Dior Haute Couture gown — a not-so-subtle nod to the iconic one Belle wears in the film.
According to a recent interview with “Beauty and the Beast” costume designer Jacquleine Durran, Watson was fairly involved in the process of conceptualizing the film’s famous yellow dress. So the fact that she’d want to pay tribute to the look IRL is pretty adorable.
The idea of an actress embracing the princess-y aesthetic of her on-screen character isn’t exactly new. It’s reminiscent of the style tactic Lily James embraced while promoting “Cinderella” in 2015. At the time, James’s stylist explained the actress’s princess-ness, saying it was basically a give-the-people-what-they-want approach.
And that’s really what Watson is doing. After all, when will she ever experience a more apt time to wear a pale yellow, floor-length gown?
