Ranvir Singh has been a familiar face on British morning television for over a decade,
but despite her public career, she has always been cautious about sharing the details of her personal life.
Recently, the Good Morning Britain presenter opened up about the challenges of being a single mother, finding love again,
and the strong support system that has helped her navigate it all—especially her friendship with fellow broadcaster Kate Garraway.
Becoming a Single Mother and Finding Love Again
Ranvir, 47, has now revealed that she became a single mother when she separated from her ex-husband, Ranjeet Singh Dehal,
while she was pregnant with their son, Tushaan, who is now 12 years old.
Raising a child on her own came with its fair share of struggles, but she found joy again in 2020 when she met Louis Church, a TV production manager.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with OK! magazine, Ranvir admitted that bringing a new partner into her and her son’s life was not a decision she made lightly.
“I think anybody who’s been in the position I’ve been in plays it very cautiously. It really isn’t just about you and your feelings. We can throw caution to the wind for ourselves, but when we have children, our foot is always hovering over the brake pad because you think, ‘Hang on a minute, this isn’t just about me.’”
Ranvir emphasized that the decision to introduce a new person into a family dynamic is a significant one. The transition required careful thought, as she wanted to ensure that her son’s well-being and happiness remained the top priority.
“It’s not just about the relationship itself, but even thinking, ‘Have I got the time to introduce somebody? I don’t want to dilute my time with my son.’ All those anxieties are really universal. Caution is the byword for anybody in my position. I think you take a lot longer to choose to integrate. It’s a much, much bigger and weightier decision than when it’s just you, for sure.”
The Unbreakable Bond with Kate Garraway
Throughout her journey as a single mother and career woman, Ranvir has been fortunate to have strong friendships, particularly with Kate Garraway. The two women, both presenters on Good Morning Britain, have built a genuine and long-standing friendship, offering each other unwavering support over the years.
Kate, who tragically lost her husband Derek Draper in January last year after a prolonged battle with long Covid, has received heartfelt messages of love and encouragement from her close friends, including Ranvir. Following Derek’s passing, Ranvir took to social media to post an emotional tribute alongside a photo from Kate and Derek’s wedding day.
“What a big, colourful life you had. But being a brilliant parent to Billy and Darcy was your true passion. Together you made a nation understand what deepest love looks and feels like.”
Their friendship has not only provided emotional support but has also played a crucial role in Ranvir’s career. She credits Kate, along with other colleagues, for helping her manage the balance between work and motherhood.
“I feel very proud of myself for managing everything for the last 12 years, but I haven’t done it alone. I’ve done it with the support of my editors and colleagues like Kate and Susanna,” she shared.
She went on to highlight the sense of family at Good Morning Britain, emphasizing how much she appreciates working in an environment that understands and values the importance of balancing personal and professional responsibilities.
“GMB is such a family-orientated place – there’s a real depth of care there. I’ve been incredibly lucky to be in a place where your family, your home life, and your work life are allowed to happen in tandem.”
Embracing a New Chapter
Ranvir’s journey from single motherhood to finding love again has not been without its challenges, but she remains grateful for the support she has received along the way. As she continues to build a fulfilling personal and professional life, she hopes that sharing her experience will resonate with others facing similar struggles.
Her relationship with Louis Church, 29, may have initially raised some eyebrows due to their 18-year age gap, but Ranvir has made it clear that love, understanding, and mutual respect matter far more than numbers. She has carefully navigated introducing him into her and Tushaan’s life, ensuring that the decision was made with her son’s best interests at heart.
As she looks ahead, Ranvir remains committed to both her career and motherhood, while embracing the happiness she has found in her relationship. And through it all, she knows she can count on her Good Morning Britain family—especially Kate Garraway—to be by her side.
