As the Fourth of July inches closer and closer, Montgomery’s Independence Day celebration is bringing in someone.
Who has been setting off his own kind of fireworks for several months now.
Asher HaVon, the season 25 champion of NBC’s “The Voice” is in the lineup for the city’s BBQ, Brews & Blues at Riverfront Park.
He’s coming in fresh off a hometown hero’s welcome in Selma last weekend, where HaVon had a sold-out meet and greet, a parade, and performed in a free concert.
Montgomery’s free fun is from 5-9 p.m. in Riverfront Park and also includes music performances by Capital Sounds and the Wesley Hill Band.
Guests will also have water activities, the splash pad will be open, and for the 21-and-up guests they’ll have free beer samples.
Enter the park through the walk-in tunnel on Commerce Street and then take a right to the amphitheater.
As we mentioned last week, yes, there will be fireworks and you can watch them from Riverfront Park, but that’s not your only option.
That night, the Montgomery Biscuits will be at home in nearby Riverwalk Stadium. If you’d like to join them for a night of baseball, gates open at 5:30 p.m. They’re giving away some freebees to fans. The first 1,000 guests to come in age 15 and up get a free Independence Day T-shirt. The Biscuits will be taking on the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at 6:35 p.m
So pick your fun. Both are great family evening entertainment, and both lead to the awesome MAX Fireworks Show, which happens immediately after the game.
The Shoppes at EastChase in Montgomery have been hosting concerts every Thursday in June, and they’re about to wrap up this year’s Summer Nights series on June 27 with Wesley Hill & Friends.
“We’d absolutely love to see ya there,” Wesley Hill wrote to fans on social media.
The concert is free, and happens from 7-9 p.m. near Sephora. They’ll also have food trucks, vendors, free kids activities, giveaways and more. Stop by the Shoppes at EastChase tent to enter the giveaway.
A first-time celebration is coming to Montgomery’s riverfront just a couple of days after Fourth of July.
Saturday, July 6, from noon to 8 p.m. Level 2 is presenting MGM Cooler Fest in Riverfront Park, 355 Commerce St. Guests are invited to bring their own coolers and lawn chairs.
Artists for the day include Fonzo, Mr. Bow Leggs, Frank Johnson, Big Yayo, Audi Yo, P2K, Kue, Donnie Ray, and Big Mel.
By now, most people in Montgomery could or should have caught a show from OTI (Outside The Inside). They’re well-known for being one of the best cover bands in the area.
But, yes, they do original music, too. Case in point, a brand new original single “Secret Lies” has been released by the trio of Steve Wingard (vocal and bass), Neil Young (guitar) and Mark DePlanche (drums). It was recorded at Warehouse231, and Cameron DuBois created a music video for it — which is available for viewing on the Bama Sound YouTube channel.
