Amanda Holden reveals she died and was put in coma during difficult birth with daughter

Amanda Holden has always been open about her personal life, but in a recent emotional revelation, she shared a harrowing experience that changed her perspective forever.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge, 54, disclosed that she momentarily died and was placed in a coma following complications during the birth of her daughter, Hollie, in 2012.

A Life-Changing Moment

Amanda opened up about the terrifying ordeal while chatting with her close friend and co-host Alan Carr on their BBC renovation show.

As the latest episode of Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job drew to a close, the duo reflected on life, loss, and the unpredictability of fate.

Earlier in the episode, the two had been working on their property’s courtyard when Amanda received disappointing news.

A beloved vine she had admired had caused structural damage and needed to be removed.

As the day wound down, they sat together with glasses of Cava, discussing how life, like their renovation project, can be unpredictable and fragile.

The scenic landscape around them sparked a deep conversation about mortality, prompting Amanda to share her near-death experience. “When you look at massive landscapes like this, it does put things into perspective,” she said. “When you lose someone, you believe they’ve gone somewhere. I’m not particularly religious, but I don’t believe it’s the end.”

A Traumatic Birth and a Brush with Death

With emotions running high, Amanda recounted the moment she nearly lost her life during Hollie’s birth. “Without being too maudlin, I had a really difficult birth with Hollie. It ended up with me in a coma—I died,” she revealed. “I was in intensive care. The baby was fine, and then when I came round and everything was alright, I never stopped thinking about death after that. I’m like, ‘Make every second count,’ literally.”

The experience left a lasting impact on Amanda’s outlook, reinforcing her determination to live life to the fullest.

A Frightening Medical Emergency

This wasn’t the first time Amanda has spoken about the ordeal. In her autobiography, she provided a detailed account of what happened that day, explaining how a severe medical complication nearly took her life.

“Unbeknown to everyone, my placenta had attached itself to my bladder, and when they lifted it out, it snagged a large artery and ruptured it,” she wrote. “I had haemorrhaged and was bleeding to death. I looked at Chris and said, ‘Don’t let me die.'”

Her husband, music producer Chris Hughes, was by her side throughout the traumatic experience. Thankfully, Amanda survived, but the event left her forever changed.

Family and Career: Moving Forward with Strength

Amanda and Chris share two daughters, Lexi, 18, and Hollie, 12. While she is grateful to have come through such a terrifying experience, she admits that it has shaped the way she views life.

Despite the trauma of her past, Amanda continues to embrace every moment, balancing her career with her family life. She remains a staple on Britain’s Got Talent, where she has returned to the judging panel alongside Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, and KSI for the latest season.

Never one to shy away from making bold fashion statements, Amanda is also known for her daring outfits on the ITV talent show. Addressing criticism over her wardrobe choices, she remains unapologetic about her style.

“I haven’t even thought about my semi-finals outfits yet,” she said. “But I constantly scroll through Instagram when I’m on car journeys and bombard my stylist with loads of ideas—it’s thigh splits and cleavage!”

Embracing Life with Gratitude

Amanda Holden’s near-death experience has only fueled her desire to live boldly and without regrets. While the memory of that fateful day still lingers, she uses it as motivation to cherish every second with her loved ones.

Whether she’s making audiences laugh with Alan Carr, dazzling viewers on Britain’s Got Talent, or sharing heartfelt moments from her life, Amanda continues to be a shining example of resilience, strength, and an unwavering zest for life.
