Anne Hathaway’s latest leading man Nicholas Galitzine will now star in a sequel of the gay love story Red, White & Royal Blue.
Released last year on Amazon Prime, the movie starred Nicholas as a British prince who falls for the American president’s son, played by Taylor Zakhar-Perez.
Nicholas, 29, has reached new heights of fame as a boy band star opposite Anne, 41, in the new age gap romantic comedy The Idea Of You.
Now he will be returning to the character of Prince Henry in a follow-up to Red, White & Blue, with Taylor also reprising the role of Alex Claremont-Diaz.
Matthew Lopez, who helmed the original movie, is returning to the director’s chair for the sequel, according to a report in People.
Prince Henry is a spare grandson of the King of England, played by Stephen Fry, while Alex is the son of the American president, played by Uma Thurman.
The two leading men initially despise each other, but a royal wedding forces them together for a round of media appearances.
In the course of having to spend time with one another, the pair discover their feelings for each other and embark on a private romance.
Their affair is complicated by the fact that the social expectations of being in the British Royal Family prevent Henry from being able to go public with Alex.
‘Beyond the great love story, I think the thing that interests me as an actor in general is people completely trapped by circumstance and upbringing,’ Nicholas reflected to Out while promoting the film last year.
‘I always like characters who have to kind of escape the bounds of their upbringing in some ways. It was a lot of fun,’ added Nicholas, who is himself from England.
Red, White & Royal Blue was based on 2019 novel of the same name by Casey McQuiston, who is collaborating with Matthew Lopez on the script for the sequel.
The next movie will be made up of newly devised material, as the book wraps up at the same basic juncture as the original film.
Last week saw the release of The Idea Of You, which stars Anne as a middle-aged single mother who falls into an affair with Nicholas’ boy band superstar.
The movie was helmed by Michael Showalter, who directed The Big Sick and co-created the Wet Hot American Summer franchise.
After premiering at the South By Southwest Film Festival in March, the movie dropped on Amazon Prime Video last month.
The Idea Of You was met with a warm critical reception to the tune of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, and reignited the online debate about age gap romances.
Promoting the movie in to Entertainment Tonight, Nicholas credited The Idea Of You with ‘portraying something that we’re not really used to seeing on screen which is an age-gap love between a young man and an older women.’
