Anne Hathaway, in an online letter, defended Jennifer Lawrence: ‘She’s not to blame, you guys are excessive’ (Video)

There’s nothing we love more than women supporting each other, and it makes no difference whether that’s in the office, at home – or in the world of showbiz.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last week, you may remember that Jennifer Lawrence, Hollywood’s darling.

Was the subject of criticism after an incident backstage after the Golden Globe Awards.

While answering questions about her win, one journalist asked a question while holding his phone up to the star.

Though it’s not clear whether he was filming her, taking photographs or translating his questions into English.

J-Law responded by saying: ‘You can’t live your whole life behind your phone, bro. You can’t do that. You’ve got to live in the now.’

The reporter became rather flustered and then asked her how she prepared for the Oscars – to which Jennifer responded: ‘We’re at the Golden Globes. If you’d put your phone down, you’d know that.’

Now we love Jennifer so much we even compiled this list of the best things she’s ever said – but several fans came out on social media to say her ‘joke’ had gone too far and had embarrassed the reporter.

Now, Jennifer’s friend Anne Hathaway, who you might remember scooped the Best Supporting Actress Award, alongside Jennifer’s Best Actress Award at the 2013 Oscars, has come out to defend her in an open latter on her Facebook page.

‘Dear the Internet,’ she wrote.

‘It’s become pretty clear that the Jennifer Lawrence “scolding” was taken out of context and that she was dryly joking with a journalist who was indeed using his phone to take photos of her.

‘Let’s not continue the sad but common practice of building people – especially women – up just to viciously tear them down when we perceive them to have misstepped.

‘Jennifer is a beautiful, talented, wildly successful, popular, FOUR TIME OSCAR NOMINATED young woman. Please let us not punish her for these things.

‘Sincerely,

‘A J-Law fan # supportstrongwomen # imwithher # whycantwegiveloveonemorechance.’

If all women came out and supported each other like this, imagine what a better place the world would be?
