Anne Hathaway shows off a fun behind-the-scenes moment in a red dress at Milan fashion week

Anne Hathaway has had something of a red carpet renaissance as of late, with the actress now regularly among the best-dressed guests at star-studded events

– but becoming a style icon is not without its struggles.

During an appearance at Milan Fashion Week on Friday, Hathaway was a Vision in Red as she sat front row at the Versace runway in a leather corseted creation.

But while the 41-year-old made sitting in the structural ensemble appear effortless for the cameras, it was not quite so glamorous IRL.

In a hilarious post to her Instagram, the Princess Diaries alum revealed what really happens behind-the-scenes

– sharing a sneak-peak into the realities of wearing literal wearable art. It’s not as simple as sweatpants, people.

The carousel began with an elegant snap of Hathaway posing with Donatella Versace for a photoshoot – the ‘expectation’, if you will – before showing a candid clip of her writhing on the couch as she attempted to pose in the body-hugging leather – the ‘reality’.

The footage captured Hathaway and Donatella dissolving into fits of laugher as she awkwardly lay down against the coach, declaring: “I just want to respect the integrity of the corset.”

“Help her, she can’t move!” Donatella giggled as Hathaway struggled to sit up, like a very majestic, very beautiful, upended beetle.

“No, it’s fine – I’m fine,” she said, very clearly indicating all was not fine.

She managed to arrange herself into a seductive sideways lean, quipping, “It’s all for Donatella” as the crew also cracked up. Ah, celebrities, they’re just like us.

“Breathing? Sitting?” she captioned the carousel, adding: “Love you @donatella_versace.”

Fans were quick to applaud the relatable moment, with one joking: “It’s giving me sitting down in my ‘standing up’ jeans.”

“The video is giving such Princess Mia energy,” another said, refencing Hathaway’s adorably awkward breakthrough role as Mia Thermopolis in the Princess Diaries film series.

During Versace’s Fall/Winter 2024 Womenswear runway show, Women’s Wear Daily also captured another candid moment; this time between Hathaway and Vogue’s Anna Wintour, the inspiration for the icy editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly in Hathaway’s classic film, The Devil Wears Prada.

“Can you breathe?” Wintour asked Hathaway in the clip, to which she responded with a laugh: “Very easily – I can’t turn, but I can breathe.”

In times like these, I imagine Hathaway can’t help but wistfully remember the days when bootcut jeans and belted T-shirts were suitable red carpet attire – but where Anne hath a will, Anne hath-a-way.
