The Les Misérables actress, 36, announced she is pregnant with her second child in a poignant post last week.
Alongside a photo of her blossoming baby bump, Anne wrote: “For everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies.
“Sending you extra love.”
Anne decided to open up about her struggle to get pregnant to help others going through the same trauma feel “less isolated”.
The mum told the Daily Mail she had previously felt “tormented” by other women’s pregnancy social media announcements.
“Each time I was trying to get pregnant and it wasn’t going my way, someone else would manage to conceive,” she said.
“I knew intellectually that it didn’t happen just to torment me, but, to be honest, it felt a little bit like it did.”
Anne believes Instagram rarely tells the whole story – as people often only choose to show the positive aspects of their life.
“By leaving out the sad part, we make women who are struggling with this feel like it’s all their fault.
“I wanted to be more sensitive than that.”
The Oscar-winning actress hopes her bravery will help other women who are too afraid to speak out about their fertility problems.
She wants to encourage other women to start a conversation about fertility issues, so those suffering don’t feel embarrassed.
Anne is already a mum to three-year-old son Jonathan with her husband Adam Shulman.
She was forced to deny pregnancy rumours last year when gaining weight for a new film role.
The actress warned social media trolls to back off as she batted off criticism of her larger figure.
