When Jennifer Lawrence began dating her now husband Cooke Maroney, it felt exceptional for the Oscar-winning actress.

Dating a non-celebrity was a major change for the Joy actress from her usual Hollywood relationships and brought a breath of fresh air into her life.

Maroney leads a very private and ‘normal person’ life, working as the Director of a group of art galleries at Gladstone Gallery.

Maroney popped the question to Lawrence less than a year into their relationship. While the X-Men actress had long ago decided to marry him and had imagined the proposal a million times,

she admitted that she blanked out and could only manage to say, “Thank you”.

But the same can’t be said for her enthusiasm for something her husband, Cooke Maroney, holds close to his heart. During a conversation with musical artist and comedian, Hannah Berner, Lawrence revealed a secret that might sting the man who gave her a massive diamond engagement ring.

When asked about her ideal first date, The Hunger Games actress immediately expressed her disdain for the ‘usual’ dates. She didn’t want to discuss matters like where she grew up and what it was like growing up, and neither did she want to engage in a ‘Netflix and chill’ date. Both Berner and Lawrence humorously agreed that they’d rather risk being murdered by a charming serial killer than have an awkward conversation.

Further, Berner wanted to know the embarrassing thing the Silver Linings Playbook actress pretended to like for a man. Her response left Berner in fits of laughter when she was the one expected to make Lawrence laugh. The Passengers actress told Berner:

“Art… Sorry babe, I like some of it. He’s an art dealer. There’s a lot of contemporary art that is just, I don’t get it. It’s got pumpkins on it. Literal pumpkins. And I’m just like, yeah okay. He’s tall.”

It might not be a good idea for Lawrence to reveal this about her husband’s job, who has bought thoughtful gifts for her. Once, Maroney surprised her with a necklace hidden inside a hardbound edition of Hereditary’s screenplay, right on top of a decapitated head portrayed in one of the scenes. Just as dark as Lawrence loves it.

Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney tied the knot in October 2019 in front of family and friends at their mansion in Newport. In February 2022, they welcomed a baby boy named Cy. Maroney understands the Mother! actress like no one else. For instance, when she bought a 15 Minute Healthy Meals book, Maroney was sure that she was never going to use it, and she never did.

Lawrence even revealed that he has made her comfortable in doing things she thought she couldn’t. During her appearance on the Naked with Catt Sadler podcast, Lawrence shared with Sadler:

“I used to have a stigma about, you know, I’d get nervous before going to restaurants, or I felt like I couldn’t go to dive bars. There were just certain things, like, ‘Oh, I can’t do that.’ And then the past year, I’ve just been doing all of that…”

Further about her loving marriage to Maroney, Lawrence added:

“He’s my best friend, so I want to legally bind him to me forever. And fortunately, the paperwork exists for such a thing. It’s the greatest. You find your favorite person on the planet and you’re like, ‘You can’t leave!’ So I wanted to take that offer.”

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the A-list stars in Hollywood, and Maroney appears to be the only one who makes her feel like a regular person rather than a celebrity. She even admitted that she doesn’t feel parental guilt about working all day because Maroney is “the greatest father in the entire world”. It appears Jennifer Lawrence made a wise choice.
