Beyoncé finally wins album of the year at Grammys 2025 after losing 4 times: ‘It’s been many, many years’

Beyoncé has finally claimed the coveted Grammy Award for Album of the Year, marking a monumental achievement in her career.

After years of being snubbed in this prestigious category, the music icon was victorious at the 2025 Grammy Awards, securing the win with her country record, *Cowboy Carter*.

This victory is historic for another reason: Beyoncé became the first Black woman to win the Album of the Year award since Lauryn Hill in 1999, solidifying her place in Grammy history.

The competition in this year’s category was fierce, with Beyoncé’s *Cowboy Carter* facing off against notable albums

such as Billie Eilish’s *Hit Me Hard and Soft*, Taylor Swift’s *The Tortured Poets Department*, Charli XCX’s *Brat*, and several others.

Despite the stiff competition, it was Beyoncé’s country-infused album that won the hearts of Grammy voters.

During her acceptance speech, Beyoncé, visibly emotional, expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the years of hard work and dedication that led to this moment. “I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years, and I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer,” she said. Her 13-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, stood by her side as she accepted the award, while the audience, including fellow musicians Eilish and Lady Gaga, reacted with tears of joy.

The win is especially significant for Beyoncé, who had been nominated for Album of the Year four times before, only to lose out to other artists. Her previous nominations were for *I Am… Sasha Fierce* in 2008, *Beyoncé* in 2013, *Lemonade* in 2016, and *Renaissance* in 2022. She had lost out to Taylor Swift (who won for *Fearless*), Beck (*Morning Phase*), Adele (*25*), and Harry Styles (*Harry’s House*), respectively. Despite these high-profile losses, Beyoncé remained a dominant force in the industry, accumulating a staggering 35 Grammy wins, the most by any artist in history.

In 2024, her husband, Jay-Z, made headlines when he publicly addressed Beyoncé’s continued failure to win Album of the Year. On stage at the 2024 Grammys, Jay-Z called out the Recording Academy, stating, “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year.” The moment resonated with many, as it shed light on the fact that despite Beyoncé’s numerous accomplishments, she had never been awarded the coveted album category—until now.

For her part, Beyoncé has always handled her Grammy snubs with grace, and she addressed her previous losses directly on *Cowboy Carter*. The album, which is now set to go on tour this summer, includes subtle references to her past Grammy frustrations. Yet, despite these perceived setbacks, the 43-year-old star has continued to evolve and expand her musical range, from her R&B roots to exploring new genres like country with *Cowboy Carter*.

Beyoncé’s *Cowboy Carter* represents a departure from her previous works, featuring a blend of country influences, storytelling, and her signature powerful vocals. The album not only celebrates her versatility as an artist but also marks a significant evolution in her musical career. Fans and critics alike have praised the record for its authenticity and emotional depth, with tracks like “Texas Hold ‘Em” showcasing her knack for blending different genres seamlessly.

As the first Black woman to win Album of the Year in over two decades, Beyoncé’s victory is more than just a personal achievement—it’s a milestone for diversity and representation in the music industry. Her win highlights the continued need for greater inclusivity and recognition of Black artists, especially in categories traditionally dominated by their white counterparts.

Now that she has finally claimed the title of Album of the Year, Beyoncé’s Grammy journey has come full circle. But this victory is not just about the award itself—it’s about the continued impact she has made on music, culture, and society. With her ability to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be an artist, Beyoncé’s legacy is solidified, and her career continues to inspire the next generation of musicians.

As Beyoncé embarks on her *Cowboy Carter* tour, fans can look forward to an unforgettable live experience that will no doubt honor her Grammy-winning album. And while her Grammy triumph may have come later than expected, it only adds to the depth of her incredible journey and legacy in the music world.
