According to Amanda Holden, a fellow judge on the panel, the situation escalated to a point where the production team had no choice but to pause auditions. 

She revealed that the hecklers didn’t hold back, shouting, “You old fart!” at Simon whenever he offered criticism. Others took it further by flicking hand gestures at him while remaining in clear view of the cameras.

Despite the harsh words, Amanda shared that the same people later had the audacity to ask Simon for a selfie, to which he understandably responded with disbelief, reportedly saying, “You’re joking, aren’t you?”

Production Team Struggled to Edit Out Insults

Though the relentless taunts may have seemed disruptive, Simon, 65, took them in stride and laughed them off. Sources close to the show revealed that he actually found the whole situation amusing and didn’t take offense.

A production insider shared that Simon enjoys filming in Blackpool because of the lively and outspoken crowds. However, while the talent show’s crew appreciated the humor in the situation, the editing team faced a real challenge. The numerous insults hurled at Simon meant they had to carefully sift through footage to make sure the final cut remained suitable for television.

Describing it as an “editing nightmare,” a source admitted that while the audience’s mischief provided unexpected entertainment, it also created additional work for those behind the scenes.

Simon Cowell’s Close Call During Dangerous Stunt

This wasn’t the only nerve-wracking moment for Simon during the auditions. In another dramatic incident, the talent show judge found himself at the center of a heart-stopping stunt.

During one act, a blindfolded performer was tasked with smashing watermelons using a mallet—dangerously close to where Simon was seated. The media mogul later admitted that for a brief moment, he genuinely feared for his life.

Recalling the experience, Simon joked that it felt like someone on the production team “actually wanted to get rid of him.” He explained that the stunt performer appeared visibly nervous, increasing the risk of an accident. At one point, Simon watched as the mallet came dangerously close, making him question whether he would make it out unscathed.

Amanda Holden, who was watching from the judges’ panel, admitted that she, too, was concerned for Simon’s safety. She explained that while the performer was clearly skilled, there was no real safeguard in place in case of an accident.
