Britain’s Got Talent’s Sydnie Christmas ready to tell her true story after whirlwind year

As Britain’s Got Talent makes its return to television, last year’s winner, Sydnie Christmas, is reflecting on an incredible 12 months that have transformed her life.

The 29-year-old singer, who captivated audiences and judges alike with her flawless rendition of Tomorrow from Annie,

has been on a remarkable journey since securing victory on the ITV talent show.

Ahead of a performance at the Glasshouse in Gateshead as part of her My Way Tour,

Sydnie spoke exclusively to The Mirror, sharing her excitement about the past year and her hopes for the future.

While she acknowledges the incredible opportunities that have come her way,

the Gravesend-born singer insists she is still striving for her ultimate dream—starring in a major West End production.

From Talent Show Triumph to a Rising Career

Sydnie’s rise to fame began when she earned Amanda Holden’s coveted Golden Buzzer during the BGT auditions. Her show-stopping performance left the judges in awe and won over audiences across the country, propelling her to the grand final, where she emerged victorious. Since then, her career has skyrocketed, with standout moments including performing in front of King Charles III at the Royal Variety Performance and the release of her debut album.

However, despite her newfound success, Sydnie remains as ambitious as ever. She revealed that her dream of making it to the West End is still her ultimate goal.

“Of course, it hasn’t changed,” she said. “You can’t just walk into a West End show. You have to be right for the role. I’m still auditioning. There are things that I’m not right for and don’t get, but that’s just the game.”

While she acknowledges the competitive nature of the industry, Sydnie credits BGT with providing her with a platform that has made her more recognizable in casting circles.

“What BGT has done is put me on a pedestal where people go, ‘Oh, that’s Sydnie.’ It helps me get into a room because people already know I can sing. So it’s helped me in that respect. But yeah, I’m still dreaming and waiting.”

Embracing Every Opportunity

Despite her determination to secure a West End role, Sydnie is embracing all aspects of her career and is grateful for every opportunity that comes her way. She expressed her love for performing in any capacity, whether on stage or touring, and emphasized how much she has learned about herself through her current experiences.

“I’ve got so many dreams,” she shared. “Every opportunity, I’m happy for. Just getting consistent work means I’m living the dream. As long as it carries on, then I’m happy—whether it be on stage or touring. I’ve realized I absolutely love it.”

Sydnie also hinted at more music in the near future, revealing that a second album is likely on the horizon.

“I’d love to do another album. One should be coming,” she teased. “I want to do it all—I don’t mean to be greedy. Dream big.”

Sharing Her Story Through Music

As she continues her My Way Tour, Sydnie is using her performances to share her journey with fans. Through a mix of storytelling and powerful vocals, she provides a deeper insight into the struggles she faced before her big break.

“My aim for this tour was to show the people who know me from BGT my story—how I got here. People who watch will understand it’s not all been easy. I make it funny, but there have been a lot of ‘no’s. I hope to show people more about me, the person they voted for.”

Although she is used to performing in character, telling her own story has been an entirely different challenge.

“I’m a storyteller, but it’s weird telling my own story. I’m not acting as someone else—I’m simply being myself. That’s actually been the scariest thing yet, but it’s been amazing.”

Overcoming Doubts and Winning Over Simon Cowell

Sydnie’s journey on Britain’s Got Talent could have taken a different turn if not for her ability to win over Simon Cowell. As she prepared for her first audition, Amanda Holden warned her that Simon was not a fan of Tomorrow. His visible skepticism could have shaken her confidence, but Sydnie remained focused on the performance.

“What could I think at that moment?” she recalled. “I was like, well, there’s nothing I can do now. I haven’t got another song. He was either going to have to like it or that was it for me. So I was hoping I could change his mind. That was the plan.”

Fortunately, her breathtaking performance did just that, earning praise from all four judges and cementing her place in the competition. Her victory led to a once-in-a-lifetime experience performing at the Royal Variety Performance—an opportunity she describes as “the best experience”, rounding off her BGT journey in spectacular fashion.

Advice for Aspiring Performers

While Sydnie is currently living her dream, she remains passionate about inspiring others to chase their own ambitions. Offering advice to hopefuls who may be considering auditioning for BGT, she encouraged them to be fearless.

“Be brave, be yourself, and just go for it,” she urged.

For those still working on their craft, she emphasized the importance of continuous practice.

“Learn your craft. If you want to dance, take as many dance classes as your heart desires. Even now, I have singing lessons all the time. It’s a technique. So practice, practice, practice—do nothing else.”

A Bright Future Ahead

As she continues to pursue her West End dream, tour across the country, and work on new music, it’s clear that Sydnie Christmas is only getting started. With her powerful vocals, determination, and unwavering passion, she is poised for even greater success in the entertainment industry.

From Britain’s Got Talent champion to a rising star with dreams as big as her voice, Sydnie is proving that with hard work, resilience, and the courage to dream big, anything is possible.
