Known for her show-stopping Met Gala couture, Cardi B did not disappoint in her 2024 Met Gala red carpet appearance.
Cardi B arrived to the 2024 Met Gala wearing a black Windowsen couture gown that nearly took up the whole width of the red carpet. Several people were seen carrying her train as she posed for the cameras
She completed the dramatic look with a matching headwrap, turquoise jewelry, and blue nails.
The rapper’s ensemble was inspired by a black rose, as her stylist Kollin Carter teased on his Instagram earlier today.
It makes sense, given the dress code is “The Garden of Time,” chosen by the Costume Institute to pair with their spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
The star recently told the Hollywood Reporter that her and Carter’s strategy for the Met is to “be iconic.”
“We always try to make sure that everything goes right, that everything be iconic,” she explained. “We want everything to be iconic. I know people sometimes be like, ‘Oh, it’s not about who is there and who is not,’ but it’s like, no, you need to remember us forever.”
The rapper said in March that she and Carter start planning months in advance of the event. “We’re always thinking ahead,” she continued.
“I feel like the Met Gala is almost like going to the Grammys. It’s very nerve-racking, and even though we make it look so easy, we really be so nervous.”
The Costume Institute’s Andrew Bolton told Vogue of this year’s exhibit and theme, “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.
One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.”
Last year, Cardi had several different looks for the night, which honored the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who passed in 2019.
The rapper was photographed leaving her hotel in a pink tulle column gown by Miss Sohee.
Then, for the red carpet, she changed into a black Chenpeng Studio gown with a collared bodice as a nod to Lagerfeld.
She told Vogue, “Karl and the house of Chanel, you know every girl from the hood love a Chanel purse. So I feel like this is giving boy bag with the camellia roses.”
“New York, stand the f— up!” Nicki Minaj arrived at the 2024 Met Gala on Monday evening (May 6) looking like a floral fairy queen.
The 41-year-old rapper wore a golden yellow Marni minidress that resembled an oil painting and was adorned with 3-D multi-colored flowers. She completed her look with blunt bangs and an arched bubble ponytail that was held together by smaller flowers, plus a matching yellow purse and heels.
Minaj walked the red carpet accompanied by Francesco Risso, the creative director for Marni.
This year’s Met Gala celebrated the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” with the dress code being “The Garden of Time.” Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya and Chris Hemsworth were this year’s co-hosts.
Minaj stopped by the Met Gala in the midst of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, which will resume Wednesday at New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center. The international jaunt will begin its European leg on May 23 at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome. During her May 1 stop at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, Minaj brought out Cyndi Lauper to perform “Pink Friday Girls” for the first time together, which heavily samples the former’s 1983 anthem “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”
