Craig Melvin’s wife in disbelief as she shares ‘blessed’ update leaving Today host in tears

Craig Melvin, Today show anchor, is a proud father, and over the weekend, he had an emotional moment that he’ll never forget.

Together with his wife, sports broadcaster Lindsay Czarniak, the couple was overwhelmed

with joy and moved to tears after witnessing a monumental victory in their son Delano’s life.

Lindsay shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, detailing the events that led to the family’s emotional reaction.

She began by explaining that Delano, 11, had achieved a significant milestone in his basketball journey, and the experience left her speechless.

“Has this kind of moment ever happened to you?? We still can’t believe it happened,” she wrote, giving followers a glimpse into the heartwarming story.

The game, which was Delano’s team’s final match of the season, turned out to be a monumental one. Craig coaches Delano’s basketball team, and the stakes couldn’t have been higher. Lindsay revealed that they were playing the best team in the league, a team that was undefeated. She compared the feeling to the excitement of covering George Mason’s run to the Final Four, a memory that gave her goosebumps as she watched her son’s team pull off the stunning upset. “I may have shed a tear,” Lindsay added, showing just how emotionally invested she was in the moment.

Despite facing a team full of talented players, Melvin instilled a sense of belief in his team that they could win—and they did. “The other team is full of great kids and masterfully coached, but Melvin instilled a belief in his group that they could do it AND THEY DID,” Lindsay shared. The underdog story had the gymnasium erupting with excitement, and Lindsay struggled to hold her phone still while capturing the game’s thrilling conclusion. “What a thrill and a blessing to see these kids accomplish a goal that seemed so out of reach,” she wrote, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, community, and dedication.

While this victory might have been in the world of recreational basketball, the moment felt monumental to the Melvin family. “It may have been rec basketball, but they will remember this forever,” Lindsay said, adding hashtags like #basketball, #teamwork, and #family. It was clear that the memory of the game would be cherished by both the players and their families for years to come.

The post also included a video of the celebration that followed the game, featuring Delano and his teammates jumping for joy, celebrating their big win. Craig was seen high-fiving the young players, but it was the next moment that really captured the depth of his emotions. As Lindsay asked for his reaction, Craig could be seen wiping away tears, clearly overcome with pride. He had coached his son’s team to an unexpected victory, and it was a moment of triumph for both father and son.

Craig, who is also a proud father to his daughter Sybil, has often shared his love for parenthood. In fact, he celebrated fatherhood by writing a children’s book titled I’m Proud of You, which was released last year. The book serves as a love letter to fatherhood, focusing on the deep pride that comes with being a parent.

“I didn’t even realize some of the emotions I’m capable of having until I had my own children,” Craig told Garden & Gun. “I wanted to write a book that helped all the dads out there.” In I’m Proud of You, Craig explains how important it is for children to know that their parents are proud of them—not just because of what they’ve achieved, but for the kind of person they’re becoming.

“I really need my kids to know: I’m proud of you, and here’s why I’m proud of you,” he explained. “It’s not just because of these things that you’ve learned how to do, but the kind of person I’m watching you become.” This sentiment was beautifully on display as Craig celebrated his son’s victory on the basketball court, a proud father watching his son excel in a moment he will never forget.

As a father, Craig has always been vocal about his love for his family, and it’s clear that moments like these are what make fatherhood truly special. From the big wins to the quiet, heartfelt moments, Craig Melvin’s journey as a parent continues to inspire those who follow his story. Whether on the air or at home, Craig’s family comes first, and his pride in his children is evident every step of the way.
