David Beckham has chosen Marcelo Weigandt, 24, to replace the right-back position left by DeAndre Yedlin (who moved to FC Cincinnati a few days ago).
The former England international wants to strengthen the best squad for Inter Miami to conquer the championships in two major tournaments, MLS and CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Clubs in MLS (USA) are still eligible to sign new contracts until the transfer deadline on April 23.
Inter Miami is taking this opportunity to strengthen its squad, after a promising start in the MLS and CONCACAF Champions Cup 2024.
“Inter Miami President David Beckham has convinced Marcelo Weigandt. The player has informed Boca Juniors that he will not renew his contract when it expires in December 2024.
The 24-year-old defender also said that he has accepted an offer from Inter Miami in the MLS and wants to join soon to play alongside the famous player Messi”,

“To get Marcelo Weigandt at this time, David Beckham’s team will certainly spend a certain amount of money to compensate for the remaining contract of this player. The compensation cost will not be large, because Weigandt did not renew with Boca Juniors anyway”, shared Gaston Edul.
Marcelo Weigandt is expected to strengthen Inter Miami, as he has a lot of experience playing in major tournaments such as the Copa Libertadores (similar to the Champions League in Europe). Therefore, he will best support Messi and his teammates in the CONCACAF Champions Cup (the Champions League in North, Central America and the Caribbean).
Coach Tata Martino also confirmed that Inter Miami is looking to add a right-back, after a 2-2 draw with Nashville SC in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16 on March 8. Inter Miami is in a strong position to advance to the quarterfinals, as they only need a 0-0 or 1-1 draw in the second leg at home at 7:15 a.m. on March 14 to advance. The CONCACAF Champions Cup still counts away goals from the knockout rounds.
The CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-finals take place from early April, so the presence of Marcelo Weigandt as soon as possible will help Inter Miami stabilize the squad and increase their chances.
