David Beckham has just returned to Manchester (England) to reunite with his former teammates at M.U Club in 1999, who made history in the 1998-1999 season by winning the treble of the Premier League,
FA Cup and Champions League. This journey has been recreated into a documentary that will be broadcast on May 17.
However, the return to Manchester City of David Beckham and his teammates this time witnessed the rapid decline of the old team under coach Erik ten Hag.
M.U Club has suffered 19 losses in the 2023-2024 season on all fronts, 14 losses in the Premier League alone, scoring only 52 goals and conceding 56 goals.
The “Red Devils” are at risk of finishing below 7th in the Premier League this season, which would be their lowest result since 1990.
In the latest match, M.U lost 0-1 to Arsenal at home at Old Trafford, and witnessed the legendary stadium seriously degraded when the roof leaked in heavy rain after the match, flooding many areas of the field.
“This club is dilapidated in every aspect, not just Old Trafford,” an indignant M.U fan commented on social network X (old Twitter), when witnessing images of the roof of Old Trafford leaking, allowing rainwater to pour down onto the field.
“We want these problems to change quickly. I think it has been going on for too long. The most difficult time may have been the last 5 or 10 years. But it is always like that once a coach who has had a big influence on the team for many years leaves (Sir Alex Ferguson).
However, after so many years, the team still has not changed. I think it is time for M.U to change and change quickly to be able to regain its position”, David Beckham emphasized.
According to BBC Sport (UK): “Billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of M.U, has put the issue of repairing Old Trafford at the top of the agenda right after the end of this season. Meanwhile, the future of coach Erik ten Hag will be decided after the current season, when M.U finishes the FA Cup final against Man City (at 9pm on May 25), and whether the position in the Premier League will improve or not (currently ranked 8th) in the remaining 2 matches (against Newcastle at 2am on May 16 and against Brighton at 10pm on May 19)”.
