Look up the phrase “cool as a cucumber” in the dictionary, and I’m 99 percent sure you’ll see a jolly, unfazed photo of David Beckham smiling back at you.

The 44-year-old former football player just put his chill AF demeanour on full display on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday when he survived an attempted scare by none other than Justin Bieber.

David kicked off his talkshow interview by chatting with Ellen about his four children and his recent acting stint on Modern Family before they got on the topic of Justin.

The doting dad recalled sliding into the “Yummy” singer’s Instagram DMs on Halloween night to ask about bringing his kids by for some trick-or-treating.

In the middle of David’s story, Justin himself popped out from a box to startle the retired athlete,

but David barely even flinched before cracking a huge grin, keeping his legs adorably crossed, and casually carrying on with his chat.

Compared to the usual arm-flailing, screaming-bloody-murder reactions we’ve seen to Ellen’s notorious scares, David’s response is likely the chillest we’ve witnessed yet. Watch it unfold — and hear him gush about his 8-year-old daughter, Harper — in the video above.
