David has made several visits to the Chelsea Pensioners over the years and has been a long term supporter of their charity initiative.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is the home of the iconic Chelsea Pensioners, who are all retired soldiers of the British Army.

The sportsman is a longtime fan of pie, mash and jellied eels and often returns to his old stomping ground to visit Tony’s Pie & Mash shop in Waltham Abbey, a short drive from his Leytonstone birthplace.

In 2021 David shared a meal of pie, mash and jellied eels with the Chelsea Pensioners after promising to return for the traditional Cockney meal.

In heartwarming photos shared to the football ace’s Facebook, David was seen posing with a pint and sitting down for a meal with residents of London’s Royal Hospital Chelsea.

David stayed true to his vow after telling Chelsea Pensioner Ted Heath the year before that he would visit again to share the East End dish, with the star adding that it was ‘Always such a privilege being in their company’.

David delightedly sat down for the meal and a chat with the Pensioners, with him dressed to the nines in a black suit and tie.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is a retirement home and nursing home for some 300 veterans of the British Army.

The previous year in 2020, David had paid a visit to the property amid his poppy campaign.

‘It was so great seeing some of the wonderful Chelsea Pensioners that I met supporting last year’s Poppy Appeal again.

‘It’s always such a privilege being in in their company and hearing their amazing stories.’
