The “Harry Potter” star put her own spin on a controversial trend.
There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you.
The ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
Now that the trend cycle is slowly transitioning out of remnants of the Y2K era and into the notorious fashion of the early 2010s.
It’s only right that we look back on one of the ultimate A-listers of the time executing one of the most controversial looks of the period.
Fresh off the heels of premiering the final film in the epochal “Harry Potter” series.

Emma Watson made an appearance at a special screening of her then-latest movie, “The Perks of Being A Wallflower” in the contentious dress-over-pants trend.
The look came courtesy of Raf Simons’ Fall 2012 Couture collection for Christian Dior, and Watson put her own chic spin on it, making a little black dress feel all the more cool.
The look features a strapless sweetheart-neckline mini, which meets a peplum-like skirt at the waist, layered over a pair of similarly fabricated cigarette trousers and a classic pump, all in black. The cherry on top was a heart-shaped key hung around her neck by a delicate gold chain.
With dresses-over-pants having a resurgence thanks to stars like Katie Holmes and PinkPantheress, now seems like a good time to revisit the trend ourselves. Below, we’ve curated a few pieces to help achieve a chic-but-still-fun take on the outfit.
