New Beyoncé wax figure horrifies fans

The Grevin-Museum in Paris is famous for its wax figures. Now Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has been unveiled there. But wait – is that really her?

The fans’ reactions are at least divided: many are angry because Beyoncé’s skin color in the figure does not match reality.

The famous wax cabinet at the Grevin-Museum in Paris has unveiled a new celebrity: Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. But is it really her?

The reactions of the fans are at least divided: many are upset because Beyoncé’s skin color in the figure does not match reality.

Under the excitement post of the official Instagram account of the French museum, criticisms are piling up: “Did the person who did that ever see a photo of Beyoncé?”, the community asks.

“We respect your work and the idea, but that’s not our queen, please correct it”, another demands. The next one summarizes: “Is that a joke?”

“When Beyoncé sees this…”

“I don’t know who that is or is supposed to be. But it’s not my queen! That’s a white woman!”, users worldwide exclaimed. “When Beyoncé sees this…”, an English-speaking follower was appalled.

It was not the first time that Beyoncé’s wax figure was criticized. In 2017, a Beyoncé statue with a supposedly lightened skin tone not only caused a storm of indignation but also the Instagram hashtag #TussaudsSoWhite.

Madame Tussauds in New York, where the statue was exhibited in 2017, explained to the New York Boulevard medium “Page Six” at the time: “Our talented team of sculptors at Madame Tussauds makes every effort to ensure that we accurately match our wax figures with the depicted celebrity.” However, the lighting in the exhibition rooms in combination with flash photography can distort the color of the wax figures and misrepresent them. We’ll have to wait and see how the Parisian Grevin-Museum explains itself.

The controversy surrounding Beyoncé’s wax figure at the Grevin-Museum has extended to social media, with many questioning its accuracy. “This is not Beyoncé, it’s a white woman!”, one user outragedly stated. “I hope Madame Tussauds takes note of this and improves their representation of black celebrities,” another fan added.

Despite previous criticisms at Madame Tussauds in New York, the issue of skin tone representation in celebrity wax figures remains a contentious issue.
