Ejiofor and Elba were also pipped to the post for recognition of their TV roles in Dancing on the Edge and Luther, losing out to Michael Douglas, winning for his portrayal of Liberace in Behind the Candelabra.

Blanchett’s Blue Jasmine co-star Sally Hawkins also came up short to Jennifer Lawrence while hotly-tipped 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen was beaten by Gravity’s Alfonso Cuaron.
