‘GMA’ host Lara Spencer scolds Gabriel Basso for calling her ‘ma’am’ during interview

On Wednesday’s episode of *Good Morning America*, Lara Spencer playfully addressed an unexpected comment made by actor Gabriel Basso.

While discussing his role in *The Night Agent* and his rising fame, Basso unintentionally caught Spencer off guard when he referred to her as “ma’am.”

The brief moment sparked laughter and an amusing exchange between the two.

Spencer and Basso had a relaxed and friendly conversation about his hit Netflix series, *The Night Agent*.

As the interview wrapped up, Spencer praised Basso for his genuine persona and authenticity.

“That’s why people love you, you’re very true to yourself and true to your craft,” Spencer said, complimenting Basso’s dedication to his role as FBI agent Peter Sutherland.

She added, “Everything I’ve read about you has just been incredibly complimentary, and the show speaks for itself. It is a pleasure to meet you. I hope you’ll come back.”

As Spencer closed the interview, she asked Basso to return in the future, saying, “Come back, please.” In response, Basso respectfully said, “Yes, ma’am,” a comment that instantly triggered a playful reaction from Spencer. The TV anchor, lifting her arms in mock exasperation, exclaimed, “Don’t call me ma’am,” which caused both of them to laugh. The moment was met with a brief chuckle from someone off-camera, followed by the show cutting to a commercial break, leaving viewers wondering how Basso responded to the lighthearted scolding.

Despite the unexpected exchange, the rest of the interview proceeded smoothly. Spencer kicked things off by welcoming Basso to the set, praising the success of *The Night Agent*. “Gabriel Basso in the house!” she said, as the live studio audience cheered. The two quickly hit it off, with Spencer expressing her excitement about meeting Basso in person. “It’s so nice to meet you in person. I’ve heard great things, and of course, I’ve seen the show,” she remarked.

Basso shared insights into his portrayal of FBI agent Peter Sutherland, noting that this role marked a significant shift in his career. “I don’t think I’ve ever played a character like this as an adult,” he explained. The actor, who began his career as a child star, admitted that *The Night Agent* provided him with new challenges, particularly with the action-oriented aspects of the role. “This was the first role as an adult where I sort of was put in positions that I hadn’t been in before—lots of action, which was cool, because I love all that,” Basso said.

*The Night Agent* has garnered significant success since its premiere on Netflix in March 2023. The action-packed thriller quickly captured audiences’ attention, leading it to become the most-watched series on the platform for 2023. According to Netflix, the show earned an impressive 812 million viewing hours across its 10 episodes, surpassing other popular titles like *Ginny & Georgia: Season 2*, *The Glory*, *Wednesday*, and *Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story*.

Basso’s success on *The Night Agent* has solidified his standing in Hollywood, but he is also known for his role as JD Vance in the 2020 Netflix film *Hillbilly Elegy*, based on the memoir by J.D. Vance. His performance in the film, alongside co-stars like Amy Adams and Haley Bennett, further showcased his range as an actor, establishing him as a versatile talent in both action-packed roles and more dramatic performances.

Fans of Basso have plenty to look forward to, with *The Night Agent* already confirmed for a second season. As the show continues to build momentum, it’s clear that Basso’s career is on a sharp upward trajectory, and his engaging personality on *Good Morning America* further confirms his rising star power.

While Spencer’s playful remark about being called “ma’am” may have been a lighthearted moment during the interview, it was clear that the interaction between the two was genuine and full of mutual respect. The chemistry between Lara Spencer and Gabriel Basso left fans entertained and eagerly anticipating what’s next for the talented actor.
