Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid halts show for Ed Balls announcement

On Monday’s episode of *Good Morning Britain*, Susanna Reid took a moment to shine the spotlight on her colleague,

Ed Balls, following his recent triumph at the *Political Podcast Awards 2025*.

As the show’s regular news analysis unfolded with guests Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire,

Susanna paused to share some exciting news: Ed Balls had been honored with two prestigious awards at the event.

“A huge congratulations to Ed Balls for winning these fantastic awards

at the Political Podcast Awards 2025 – Interview of the Year and The People’s Choice Award,” Susanna announced with visible excitement.

Ed, in his typical good-natured manner, shared more details about his big win with viewers, emphasizing the unique nature of the People’s Choice Award. Unlike the other categories, this particular honor was determined by a public vote, making it especially meaningful to Ed and his podcast co-host, George Osborne. Susanna joined in the celebration, offering a heartfelt “huge well done” to her colleague.

Curious about the specific interview that had earned Ed his well-deserved accolades, Andrew Pierce asked which conversation had garnered such recognition. Ed revealed that it was his discussion with Michael Gove about Brexit that had captivated listeners and earned the Interview of the Year Award. With a laugh, Ed joked that they had “droned on for an impressive hour and a half,” referring to the length of the insightful conversation.

Susanna, always keen to share the behind-the-scenes dynamics of her colleagues’ work, also mentioned that Ed doesn’t run the *Political Currency* podcast alone. He partners with none other than George Osborne, former Chancellor of the Exchequer. This partnership has certainly proven to be a winning combination, as their podcast has resonated deeply with listeners.

Kevin Maguire, in his characteristic cheeky style, quipped: “People can listen and they can hate one or both! That’s the joy of it!” His playful remark sparked laughter among the panel, but Susanna was quick to ensure that the tone remained positive and lighthearted. “No hate on this programme!” she asserted, keeping the mood upbeat and celebratory.

Following their big win, the *Political Currency* podcast team took to Twitter to express their gratitude and share the excitement with their supporters. A thank-you video was posted featuring Ed and George, where they gleefully acknowledged their fans’ support. “What a night! Double celebrations at the #PoliticalPodcastAwards. Thanks to everyone who voted for us,” the tweet read. In the video, Ed could be seen grinning widely as he held their newly won awards. He enthusiastically declared: “We’ve just won awards at the Political Podcast of the Year Awards. In fact, we didn’t just win one.”

There was a dramatic pause before George Osborne appeared with a second trophy, and Ed’s excitement was evident as he exclaimed, “Two! Can you believe it? Not only Interview of the Year for Michael Gove, but also The People’s Choice!” George, ever the gracious co-host, added a heartfelt message, thanking their listeners: “Thank you for voting for us! It’s been a while since we won an election.”

The video ended with the duo expressing their surprise and appreciation for the awards. “I was not expecting it at all, so thank you very much,” Ed admitted, his gratitude clear. They ended the post by encouraging fans to stay tuned to their podcast, promising more engaging content ahead.

The excitement surrounding their awards was palpable, and fans were quick to express their admiration for the duo. One particularly enthusiastic tweet read, “Bl***dy fantastic work! Well done, guys! Who would have thought two blokes from completely opposite ends of the political spectrum would get on so well? Marvellous.” The unexpected yet successful partnership between Ed and George, once seen as political rivals, has clearly struck a chord with listeners, making *Political Currency* one of the most talked-about podcasts in the UK.

With these two major awards in hand, Ed and George are undoubtedly looking forward to continuing their successful run. Their podcast has not only earned critical acclaim but also the affection of the public, who have rallied behind them with their votes. The journey from political foes to podcasting partners has truly been a remarkable one, and with more content on the horizon, it’s clear that *Political Currency* is a podcast to watch.
