1923 season 2 filming appears to have begun, despite previous reports. With a star-studded cast including Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, 

1923 is the prequel series to the acclaimed show Yellowstone. In addition to these two superstars, the show features a supporting cast including Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer,

 Jerome Flynn, Darren Mann, Isabel May, Brian Geraghty, and Aminah Nieves. After its premiere, 1923 season 2 was confirmed, but the series does not yet have a release date.

As per Deadline, SkyShowtime CEO Monty Sarhan, who spoke about Yellowstone and its multiple spinoff series at an event touting the franchise’s European distribution, 

confirmed that 1923 season 2 filming has already begun. This despite previous reporting that had indicated Ford and Mirren would be returning to their roles in July of this year.

When Will 1923 Season 2 Be Released?

Sarhan’s reports about 1923 season 2 are in direct contrast with a document from the City of Austin that outlined July as the month that the series would start shooting. According to that source, the show would film throughout the summer, wrap up in September, and would cost around $150 million.

Sarhan did not specify where 1923 season 2 is currently filming, or when production actually started. This stage of photography may be taking place in a different city, and thus would not be part of the previous report from the City of Austin, or the network has simply moved up the timeline. If the latter, an earlier end to filming could bring about an earlier release date, as well.

The 1923 season 1 wrapped up back in February 2023, so audiences will be eager to see what happens next to this sect of the Dutton family. Still, the show will likely have to wait until at least the wrap-up of Yellowstone season 5 part 2, which begins airing toward the end of this year. 1923 may be pushing for an early 2025 release date, but is at the very least unlikely to face lengthy delays now that filming is underway.
