Prince Harry’s feud with brother Prince William and his estranged relationship with Kate Middleton isn’t the only thing keeping him away from England—the royal has not jumped at
the opportunity to bring wife Meghan Markle and their two young children, Archie and Lilibet, over because he is unsure of how much he’ll be able to protect them should they visit.
“Harry’s case is he does not feel safe. He doesn’t feel his family is safe when they’re in the U.K.
because they do not have police protection officers with the Metropolitan Police with him,” Cameron Walker, GB News royal correspondent, told The Mirror.
“So perhaps that is the main reason why Prince Harry isn’t bringing Meghan and Archie and Lilibet over to the UK because he can’t guarantee,
he would say he can’t guarantee their safety.”
This is far from the first time that Harry has raised concerns about safety—the royal has been battling with the Home Office, which requires him to provide the Metropolitan Police 28 days’ notice before requesting security detail when he comes to U.K. Markle or their children. When Harry and Meghan took a step back from their royal duties in January 2020, they lost their automatic right to security protection; the motion went into effect the following month in February 2020.
During Harry’s May visit to England, a spokesperson of his claimed that King Charles was too busy with resuming his royal duties to see his youngest song. But royal reporter Rebecca English had a different side to the story, and told The Telegraph (viaThe Daily Mail) that Harry was “said to have declined his father’s offer [to stay in a royal property] because it did not come with any taxpayer-funded personal security provision, which would leave him staying in a ‘visible location with public entrance and exit points and no police protection.’”
“Instead, he chose to stay at a hotel—presumably with members of the public—because it meant he ‘could come and go unseen,'” she continued.
In addition to the lack of safety, there is a chance that Harry doesn’t feel welcome by his own family. Charles reportedly would welcome Harry back into the fold on the “guarantee” that he won’t embarrass the working royals. As far as Harry and Meghan’s relationship with William and Kate, it shows no chance for improvement—there’s “too much damage” and it’s at the point of no return.
