The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will cost the Nigerian Government huge security costs while the country has 87 million people living below the poverty line.
Later this month, Harry and Meghan will visit the African country for the first time during negotiations to host the Invictus Games and participate in cultural activities.
As guests of the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musan, the Sussexes will enjoy the same security as when they were members of the British Royal Family.
According to reports, the cost of protecting Harry and Meghan will be paid by the Nigerian government.
However, this is causing strong opposition from Nigerians and the world because the country is dealing with chronic poverty, with an estimated 87 million people living below the poverty line.
The Sussexes’ visit also comes after Harry faced pressure to reconsider his role on the board of conservation charity African Parks.
The Duke of Sussex was appointed chairman of the organization in 2023, after six years as chief executive. The 39-year-old prince takes on overall responsibility for overseeing the organization’s policies and overseeing the management of 22 national parks across Africa.
However, last month, the organization’s staff revealed many hidden corners here. They said rangers used weapons and torture methods to interrogate poachers. At the same time, journalist Olivier van Beenman also accused African Park of fraud in using funds donated from the British government, American billionaires and celebrities.
