Heartbreak revealed: Eamonn Holmes opens up about divorce from Ruth Langsford, admitting “I’m Not OK” and feeling as if he is on “borrowed time” because of poor health condition

Eamonn Holmes has opened up for the first time about his divorce from Ruth Langsford, admitting: “I’m not OK. This is not a good time at all.”

The star spoke to the Mirror at the TRIC Awards, where he is nominated in the Best News Presenter category, as well as Best News Broadcast.

Reflecting on the end of the couple’s 14-year marriage, Eamonn added: “It’s too early to say but I hope we can still be friends.”

Struggling with chronic back pain which saw him require a high-tech wheelchair at the ceremony, he even admitted feeling as if he is on “borrowed time”,

as his father died at the age of 65 from a fatal heart attack in 1991. The presenter, 64, has battled multiple heath issues over the past few years,

before him and Ruth announced they were ending their marriage last month.

Eamonn admitted he had considered pulling out of attending as he had been in so much pain. However, his new high tech equipment allowed him to be more comfortable. “I wasn’t going to come, but I’ve got this new chair with all these gadgets,” he said. GB News Breakfast was named the Best News programme and Eamonn told the audience: “I had an operation a year and a half ago, and two things went wrong so I have two things in my back I don’t want. So I’ll happily accept this.”

Speaking prior to the ceremony, he has previously said he found his back pain deliberating. “I get very resentful that I’m not the way I used to be but I get on with it,” he said. “I work hard at trying to walk. It’s very hard to get through a normal day but I have help from people around me.”

He had previously praised Ruth for her constant support. Last month, they said in a statement: Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.” Eamonn previously said: “We’d just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated.”

Christine McGuinness could be seen holding Eamonn’s hand at the award ceremony with an arm placed around his shoulder as they smiled at the camera. Eamonn donned a black suit, white shirt and blue tie. He also took to his Instagram to confirm his attendance at the event by posting a snap from inside the lavish venue. He quietly snuck into the venue where he sat waiting for his food to be served. “Whatever the results, a nice lunch awaits #Tricawards,” he wrote alongside the snap from his table.

It came after sources close to Eamonn said they were unsure if he would be able to attend due to issues with his back. They said he was likely to try to go as he has fond memories of the awards from previous years, where he has won awards and chatted to friends in the TV industry. “He would like to go but it is in the balance, a lot will depend on how he feels on the day,” the source told The Mirror.

Understanding Deductibles in Insurance

What is a Deductible?

A deductible is the amount of money a policyholder must pay out-of-pocket before an insurance company begins to cover the remaining costs. Deductibles are a fundamental component of most insurance policies, including health, auto, home, and business insurance.

How Do Deductibles Work?

When you file a claim, you are responsible for paying the deductible amount. Only after this amount is paid will the insurance company pay for the covered expenses exceeding the deductible. For example, if you have a $1,000 deductible on your car insurance and incur $3,000 in damages from an accident, you would pay the first $1,000, and the insurance company would cover the remaining $2,000.

Types of Deductibles

  1. Fixed Dollar Deductible: This is a specific amount you must pay each time you file a claim. It’s common in health and auto insurance policies.
  2. Percentage Deductible: In some cases, particularly with homeowners insurance, the deductible might be a percentage of the insured value. For instance, if your home is insured for $200,000 and you have a 2% deductible, your out-of-pocket cost would be $4,000 before insurance covers the rest.
  3. Per-Claim vs. Annual Deductible:
    • Per-Claim Deductible: You pay the deductible every time you file a claim.
    • Annual Deductible: Common in health insurance, this deductible resets each year. You pay out-of-pocket until your total expenses reach the deductible amount for the year.

Why Do Deductibles Exist?

  1. Cost Control: Deductibles help keep insurance premiums more affordable. Higher deductibles typically result in lower premiums because the policyholder assumes more initial risk.
  2. Reduced Claims Frequency: Deductibles discourage policyholders from filing small or frivolous claims, reducing the number of claims an insurer must process and pay out.
  3. Shared Responsibility: Deductibles ensure that policyholders share in the financial responsibility of their care or damages, promoting cautious behavior and maintenance of insured assets.

Choosing the Right Deductible

When selecting an insurance policy, choosing the right deductible is crucial. Here are some considerations:

  1. Financial Ability: Assess your ability to pay the deductible in case of a claim. A higher deductible can lower your premium but may be challenging to pay if an incident occurs.
  2. Risk Tolerance: Determine how much risk you are comfortable assuming. If you prefer lower out-of-pocket costs during an emergency, a lower deductible might be preferable, albeit with a higher premium.
  3. Frequency of Claims: Consider how often you might need to file a claim. If you anticipate frequent claims, a lower deductible might be more cost-effective over time.

Impact on Premiums

The relationship between deductibles and premiums is inverse. Generally, the higher the deductible, the lower the premium, and vice versa. This trade-off allows policyholders to customize their insurance based on their financial situation and risk appetite.

Conclusion

Deductibles are a key feature of insurance policies that influence both the cost of premiums and the financial burden on policyholders when filing claims. Understanding how deductibles work and carefully selecting an appropriate deductible can help balance cost savings with financial protection, ensuring optimal insurance coverage tailored to individual needs and circumstances.
