Hoda Kotb Admits It’s ‘Scary’ to Leave ‘Today’ After 17 Years, Reflects on Starting a ‘New Life’

Hoda Kotb, one of the most recognizable and beloved figures in morning television,

has announced her decision to leave NBC’s iconic “Today” show after an impressive 17-year tenure.

As she prepares to embark on a new chapter, Kotb is opening up about the emotional journey of saying goodbye to a role that has defined much of her professional life.

Reflecting on a Remarkable Career

Kotb joined “Today” in 2007 as a co-host of the fourth hour alongside Kathie Lee Gifford.

Over the years, she became a cornerstone of the program, known for her warmth, authenticity, and relatability.

Her chemistry with co-hosts, particularly Gifford and later Jenna Bush Hager, earned the show millions of devoted viewers. In 2018, Kotb made history as the first woman to co-anchor the flagship two-hour segment of “Today” after Matt Lauer’s departure.

During her time on the show, Kotb covered countless major news events, interviewed high-profile figures, and shared moments of joy and vulnerability with audiences. Her ability to connect with people, both in the studio and at home, solidified her status as a trusted voice in journalism.

The Decision to Move On

Kotb’s decision to leave “Today” did not come lightly. In a candid interview, she admitted that stepping away from a job she loves feels both daunting and exhilarating. “It’s scary,” she shared. “When you’ve done something for so long, it becomes a part of who you are. But I’ve always believed in the importance of growth and embracing change, even when it’s uncomfortable.”

The decision was motivated by a desire to focus on new opportunities and personal growth. Kotb hinted at wanting to dedicate more time to her family and explore projects that align with her passions outside of broadcasting. As a mother to two young daughters, Haley Joy and Hope Catherine, she emphasized the importance of being present for them during their formative years.

Embracing a New Chapter

For Kotb, leaving “Today” is not just about closing a chapter but also about starting a new one. “It’s a chance to rediscover who I am outside of this incredible job,” she explained. “I’m excited to see what’s next, even if it’s a little nerve-wracking.”

Her reflections resonate with many who face significant life transitions. Kotb’s willingness to embrace the unknown and prioritize her personal values serves as an inspiration to others navigating similar crossroads. “Life is about seasons,” she said. “This is the end of one season and the beginning of another.”

A Legacy of Inspiration

Kotb’s departure from “Today” marks the end of an era, but her impact on the show and its viewers will endure. Colleagues and fans alike have expressed their admiration for her contributions, highlighting her unwavering positivity and genuine kindness.

Savannah Guthrie, her longtime co-anchor, praised Kotb’s ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. “Hoda has a way of bringing out the best in people,” Guthrie said. “Her presence will be deeply missed, but we’re excited for what’s ahead for her.”

Kotb’s decision also sparks important conversations about the courage it takes to step away from a successful career to pursue personal fulfillment. Her story serves as a reminder that it’s never too late to start anew, no matter how established one’s current path may be.

Looking Forward

As Kotb prepares to say her final goodbye to “Today,” she does so with gratitude and hope. “This show has been one of the greatest joys of my life,” she reflected. “I’m forever thankful for the experiences, the people, and the memories.”

Though her next steps remain unclear, one thing is certain: Hoda Kotb’s journey is far from over. Whether she pursues new ventures in media, devotes more time to her family, or explores entirely different horizons, her authenticity and resilience will undoubtedly guide her to continued success.

For viewers who have watched her every morning, Kotb’s departure is bittersweet. But as she embarks on this new adventure, she leaves behind a legacy of inspiration, reminding us all that embracing change—while scary—can lead to profound growth and new opportunities.
