Hoda Kotb on how she’s starting holiday traditions in new home

Hoda Kotb, known for her vibrant personality and infectious spirit, recently opened up about how she is creating new holiday traditions in her newly purchased home.

As a mother of two young daughters and a beloved TV host on *Today*, Kotb has always emphasized the importance of family, joy,

and togetherness, especially during the holiday season.

Moving into a new house marked a significant chapter in her life,

and with the change of scenery came the opportunity to reinvent how she celebrates the most cherished time of year with her loved ones.

For Kotb, the holidays are not just about the festive decorations, the food, or the presents — though she certainly enjoys all of those things — they are about the moments

that create lasting memories. In her new home, she feels a deeper connection to her family and the legacy they are building together. “We’ve always done Christmas big in our family, but now in a new space, it feels even more special,” Kotb shared. She explained how the move provided her with a fresh perspective, helping her to embrace the season with even more enthusiasm. “We’re taking our traditions and giving them a little twist,” she added, referring to how she’s been adjusting long-standing practices to fit her new surroundings.

The biggest change for Kotb has been the way she approaches decorating her home for the holidays. In the past, she would often lean on the help of her family and friends, gathering their input and incorporating various elements into the overall look. However, in her new home, Kotb has decided to take a more personal approach, carefully selecting decorations that resonate with her sense of style and what she feels will create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere for her daughters, Haley and Hope. The warm, inviting energy of the home’s design now sets the tone for holiday celebrations. Kotb revealed that she has added more meaningful touches this year, like handpicked ornaments and family heirlooms passed down from her parents. These pieces are symbols of continuity, connecting the present moment with the past. The decorations aren’t just aesthetic; they represent the family’s journey and the memories that will be made in this new chapter of their lives.

In addition to her focus on creating a warm home environment, Kotb has also put extra thought into the type of activities she and her family will engage in this holiday season. She talked about how the simplicity of spending time together and creating traditions is what really matters to her. One of the new traditions she’s excited about is baking with her daughters. “We’re going to bake cookies and make holiday treats together,” Kotb said, emphasizing that it’s more about the process than the final product. She enjoys watching her daughters engage with the activity, excitedly adding ingredients, stirring the dough, and decorating the cookies with colorful icing and sprinkles. For Kotb, these moments of laughter and connection are what truly define the holidays. She said, “The time spent together, the laughter, and the mess — that’s what makes it special.”

Kotb also explained that part of the fun of creating new traditions involves finding activities that resonate with her family’s unique dynamics. While many people associate certain holiday activities with nostalgia, Kotb recognizes that the magic of the season lies in making it meaningful for the people closest to you. Along with baking, Kotb looks forward to cozy movie nights with her daughters, cuddling on the couch with hot cocoa and popcorn as they watch their favorite holiday films. Whether it’s the latest Christmas classic or a heartwarming animated movie, these moments of relaxation and togetherness help her and her family slow down and enjoy the season.

Another holiday tradition Kotb values is giving back. She has always been an advocate for charitable work and believes in teaching her daughters the importance of kindness, compassion, and generosity. In the spirit of the holidays, she has made it a point to involve her daughters in volunteer activities. Together, they have taken part in charity drives and food bank donations, instilling in them the importance of helping others, especially during the holidays. Kotb hopes that by actively engaging her daughters in such charitable acts, they will develop a deep sense of empathy and appreciation for the blessings they have in their own lives.

Overall, Kotb’s reflections on starting holiday traditions in her new home highlight how, for her, the essence of the season goes beyond material gifts. It’s about creating cherished memories with loved ones, embracing new rituals, and honoring the spirit of generosity and togetherness. For her family, it’s not about doing everything “perfectly” or sticking strictly to old traditions, but about creating moments that will be remembered for years to come. Whether it’s through decorating the house, baking cookies, enjoying quiet movie nights, or giving back to those in need, Kotb’s approach to the holidays is a reminder that the most important gift is the love and time shared with those closest to you.
