Holly Willoughby’s new life after sick murder plot and Phillip Schofield scandal

Holly Willoughby is embarking on a new chapter in her life, leaving behind the tumult of the past few years.

The beloved presenter of Dancing on Ice, aged 44, has made the decision to focus on fresh opportunities

after stepping down from her long-standing role on This Morning in October 2023.

This move followed the traumatic experience of falling victim to a foiled kidnapping plot. Now, a year and a half later,

Holly is embracing a more positive outlook and taking life one day at a time.

Holly’s departure from This Morning came shortly after the shocking news that her former co-host,

Phillip Schofield, had been let go by ITV. The exit followed revelations that Phillip had lied about a secret affair with a younger colleague, a scandal that shook the entertainment world. Despite the upheaval, Holly has found her footing, taking on new ventures that reflect her resilience and desire for growth.

Currently, Holly is co-presenting Dancing on Ice with Stephen Mulhern, marking a new era in her career. She has also stepped into a solo role, hosting Celebrity Bear Hunt, a Netflix series alongside adventurer Bear Grylls. This marks Holly’s first major promotional event since the chilling events of the previous year. Speaking at the premiere of Celebrity Bear Hunt earlier in February, Holly expressed her belief in living in the moment. “All I’ve learned out of life is you never know what’s around the corner. So, I’m like, one day at a time, one step at a time, just like in the jungle,” she said.

The series, which saw Holly venture into the wilds of Central America, represents a significant personal milestone. She was able to take this journey while leaving behind her husband, Dan Baldwin, and their three children, Harry, 15, Belle, 13, and Chester, 10, for three weeks of filming in Costa Rica. Holly explained that with her children growing older, it felt like the right time for her to take on a project that pushed her beyond her usual boundaries.

Last year, Holly and Dan made a significant move when they purchased a new family home worth £8 million. They also renovated it before settling in, ensuring it was a safe and secure environment for their family. In light of the recent kidnap plot, the couple installed state-of-the-art security systems and have kept their private life under wraps, choosing not to share any glimpses of their home on social media.

In a candid interview with The Times, Holly opened up about the emotional toll of the past year. She reflected on how challenging it had been but emphasized that she made the conscious choice to focus on the positive aspects of her life. “It’s been a tough one. There’s no way of sugar-coating it. Nothing can prepare you for something like that. When something like that happens, you have a decision to make. You either decide, right, I can take this on board, and it can absolutely affect all aspects of my life. Or I can make a choice to go, let’s focus on everything that’s positive and good, all those important things.”

The kidnap plot, orchestrated by security guard Gavin Plumb, was a terrifying ordeal for Holly. In 2023, Plumb was convicted and handed three life sentences for attempting to kidnap, rape, and murder the presenter. His arrest came after months of upheaval in Holly’s personal and professional life. At the same time, she was dealing with the fallout from Phillip Schofield’s exit from This Morning. Holly had expressed the hurt she felt over Phillip’s betrayal, particularly when she discovered that he had lied to her about his secret relationship. She later admitted that it was hard for her to watch the toll the scandal took on his mental health. Phillip himself said that he had lost his best friend and apologized to Holly, though she did not respond to his messages.

After six months of turmoil, Holly too decided to leave This Morning, a decision she said she made for the sake of her family and herself. Since her departure, Holly has maintained strong friendships with her former colleagues, and her absence has been felt. At the 2024 National Television Awards, This Morning presenters reunited with Holly, and co-host Josie Gibson spoke warmly of her, calling her “one of the greatest broadcasters of all time” and expressing how much they missed her on the show.

Holly’s ability to persevere through such personal challenges speaks to her strength and determination. Now, with a renewed sense of purpose, she is looking forward to the future, embracing new experiences, and continuing to carve out her place in television.
