How Jessica Alba and Cash Warren battled jealousy and a lack of romance as they tried to save 17-year marriage

After months of speculation about the state of their relationship, Jessica Alba and Cash Warren have confirmed their separation, ending a marriage that lasted 17 years.

The actress, who has been notably seen without her wedding rings in recent months, revealed that the decision came after a long period of romantic difficulties.

In a statement shared on Thursday, the *Honey* star reflected on the journey of growth she and Warren had experienced together.

“I’ve been on a journey of self-realization and transformation for years — both as an individual and in partnership with Cash,” Alba explained.

“I’m proud of how we’ve grown in our marriage over the last 20 years and it’s now time for us to embark on a new chapter of growth and evolution as individuals.”

Though Alba’s words were filled with gratitude for the time they spent together, insiders close to the couple revealed that the two had been struggling romantically for more than a year.

A source told *DailyMail.com* that despite their deep devotion to their children and successful careers, the couple had neglected to nurture their relationship. “They’re just friends now,” the source said, highlighting that the couple’s priorities shifted significantly over time.

When they first got married in 2008, Alba and Warren envisioned a future together where they would collaborate both in love and business. However, as their careers blossomed, those shared dreams gradually fell by the wayside. Alba co-founded The Honest Company, which became a massive success, going public in 2021 with a valuation of $1.44 billion. Meanwhile, Warren pursued ventures such as his production company, Verso Entertainment, and the popular underwear brand, Pair of Thieves.

As Alba’s business success grew, it left Warren feeling increasingly sidelined, both professionally and personally. A source close to the couple shared that he felt neglected by his wife’s intense focus on her career. Despite his efforts to revive their romantic connection, including attempts to schedule date nights, Alba allegedly continued to turn down his efforts. “She just continued to shoot down any attempts to go on dates and do stuff as a couple,” the insider explained. Eventually, Warren came to the difficult conclusion that it was easier to let go than continue to push for a relationship that no longer seemed to work.

This isn’t the first time that the couple’s relationship has faced turmoil. In the early stages of their romance, Warren openly admitted that his jealousy nearly destroyed their bond. On *Jana Kramer’s Whine Down* podcast in 2023, he confessed to feeling insecure about the attention Alba received from other men. “I was always a pretty confident person in my own life, but then I found myself looking up and feeling jealous all the time,” he said. This insecurity led to a brief four-year break in their relationship, a time when both partners took the space to reflect and grow.

Although there has been rampant speculation about the reasons behind their separation, sources have firmly stated that infidelity was not a factor. “It reached a point where it was easier for him to give up and give her what he felt she ultimately wanted,” one insider said. The couple’s relationship had become routine, with both of them simply “going through the motions” for some time before ultimately deciding to part ways.

Alba, during a 2024 appearance on *Katherine Schwarzenegger’s Before, During, And After Baby* podcast, discussed the shift in her marriage, reflecting on how the early excitement gave way to routine. She explained, “It’s all rosy for two and a half years, but then after that you become roommates. You’re just going through the motions.” She shared that they had tried to maintain a tradition of weekly date nights, but over time, the efforts fell apart. “It stopped because of whatever, and so we’re just not consistent,” she admitted.

Despite the breakdown in their romantic connection, Alba noted that their bond remained strong in other ways. In a candid reflection, she admitted, “You know, I think that [Cash] probably gets the short end of the stick. It’s hard. It’s impossible.”

As the couple now prepares to officially separate, legal experts suggest that their divorce may include financial considerations due to the significant wealth gap between the two. Cash, with an estimated net worth of $50 million, could receive substantial financial support from Alba, whose fortune is estimated at $100 million. Sources claim that Cash could be entitled to as much as $2 million annually, beyond child support.

The couple shares three children—daughters Honor, 16, and Haven, 13, and son Hayes, 7—and while their marriage may be ending, both parents remain committed to co-parenting. As they move forward into separate chapters of their lives, it’s clear that both Jessica and Cash have already experienced substantial personal growth and are determined to continue evolving, albeit on their own paths.
