Hugh Grant, 64, admits he’s ‘poisoned’ his children twice after BBQ disaster and reveals the very casual first date he went on with wife Anna Eberstein, 41, as he shares rare family insight

Hugh Grant, known for his charming roles in films like *Notting Hill* and *Bridget Jones’s Diary*,

recently made a surprising revelation about his cooking skills in an interview with *British Vogue*.

At 64 years old, Hugh admitted that despite never having cooked before, he’s now trying his hand at preparing meals for his family.

However, his culinary adventures haven’t exactly gone smoothly,

with the actor confessing to two major BBQ disasters that ended up with his family suffering from food poisoning.

Grant shared that he once served undercooked chicken to his family, which led to what he humorously described as “worms all round.”

He explained, “It was on the barbecue, and I stuck my Heston Blumenthal prod into it. I couldn’t quite read it. So, I served it out – worms all round.” Despite this setback, Hugh didn’t shy away from the reality of his cooking skills, acknowledging that the children now beg him not to cook. The actor’s cooking missteps didn’t stop him from continuing to experiment in the kitchen, though, as he is now making efforts to improve.

This candidness came during a conversation with his *Bridget Jones* co-star Renée Zellweger in Vogue’s February issue, ahead of the release of *Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy*. The interview provided an interesting glimpse into Grant’s family life, which he typically keeps private. The actor, who is known for his wit and charm on-screen, revealed that he had only started cooking recently. Renée was clearly surprised by the news, and Hugh’s self-deprecating humor in response added a layer of warmth to their interview.

In the same conversation, Hugh also shared details about his first date with his wife, Anna Eberstein, 41. Their date was refreshingly low-key, taking place in a local wine bar. The couple, who married in 2018, have since built a family together, with three children of their own. Hugh revealed that Anna is an important influence on his life, and he praised her for being a great partner and mother to their children.

While Hugh’s cooking may be questionable, his life outside the kitchen seems much more in order. The actor, who is a father of five, opened up about his children, especially his youngest, during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel. For the first time, he shared the names and genders of his younger children, offering a rare insight into his family. His youngest daughter is named Lulu Danger Grant, inspired by Hugh’s playful desire for her to one day be able to tell people that her middle name is “Danger,” a nod to the *Austin Powers* films. His eldest son, John Mungo, also has a unique middle name, chosen by his parents for its distinctive charm.

Hugh’s second child with Anna, a daughter, was almost named “Kevin,” after the Minion character from *Despicable Me*, before the family ultimately decided on the name Blue. Hugh explained that they asked their eldest son for suggestions, and Kevin was his favorite name at the time. Ultimately, Blue was chosen, making it another example of the quirky and unconventional names the actor’s children carry.

Despite his willingness to share glimpses into his family life, Hugh continues to keep certain aspects of his private life under wraps. He has been especially protective of his children’s privacy, noting in a past interview that he avoided announcing their births publicly to shield them from unnecessary media attention. This includes the arrival of his daughter Tabitha, whom he admitted he didn’t meet until the day after her birth to avoid press leaks.

While Hugh’s personal life and family remain largely private, he is clearly devoted to his children. His transition into fatherhood, having five children from different relationships, has, according to those close to him, transformed him into a more engaged and “enchanted” father. As Hugh himself puts it, having children has “improved him,” and while he may still maintain his “miserable” persona, he’s undeniably a more content and devoted family man than before.

Despite the mishaps in the kitchen, Hugh Grant’s rare openness about his cooking disasters, his children’s names, and his first date with Anna adds a layer of relatability to the actor. While he may not be the next Michelin-star chef, he certainly brings humor and warmth to his role as a husband and father.
