“Emma Stone and I actually had this conversation once because we used to always audition for the same thing.”
While it was what the duo used to do previously, she shared that it now seemed “silly” to her as their “careers are so different.”
She added,
“She got one thing that I was dying for, but the one thing that really killed me, like the only time I’ve ever been truly devastated by losing an audition…was Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.”
Here, she was referencing to the lead role in the 2010 Tim Burton film however it eventually went to Mia Wasikowska.

At The Hollywood Reporter‘s roundtable, the Hunger Games actress revealed further detail about the movie she ended up losing to Stone. She really wanted to work in a teen rom-com film, Easy A which starred Stone alongside Stanley Tucci, Lisa Kudrow, and Aly Michalka among several others.
She shared at the time,
“I auditioned for Easy A. I wanted it so bad.”
To that, the La La Land actress promptly responded,
“Well, guess what? You didn’t get it. You didn’t get it because you s*ck!”
