She shocked when she shaved her hair completely off to play the role of Fantine in her upcoming movie, Les Miserables.

And it seems that Anne Hathaway herself was equally stunned when she first looked in the mirror following the buzz-cut.

The 30-year-old actress says that she saw her older brother Michael staring back at her when she finally gained the courage to look at her reflection.

‘When I eventually looked in the mirror I just thought I looked like my gay brother,’ she said, during a New York screening of the movie on Friday, according to Radaronline.com.

Anne is extremely close to her brother, and in 2010 she told British GQ that she, her sibling and entire family decided to break ties with the Catholic Church when her brother came out as a homosexual.

‘The whole family converted to Episcopalianism after my elder brother came out. Why should I support an organization that has a limited view of my beloved brother?’ she said in the interview.

Anne took on a complete physical transformation to play the character of Fantine, who is forced into prostitution to pay for the care of her young daughter.

The Dark Knight Rises star threw herself wholeheartedly into the role and even lost 25 pounds in order to properly depict a member of the Nineteenth century French underclass.

Anne recently told Vogue that preparing for the part and shooting the film left her in a ‘state of deprivation, physical and emotional’.

She also revealed that she felt easily ‘overwhelmed’ and credited her new husband Adam Shulman for keeping her sane and being so ‘understanding and supportive’.

Meanwhile, Anne hardly stuck out from the crowd on Saturday when she took her dog Esmeralda for a walk.

With most of her milky flesh covered, Anne donned a colourful chunky scarf and grey flat cap for the outing.

Anne opted for monochrome trainers on her feet and black fitted trousers with a coat and leather gloves. All that could be seen of her body was red nose and famous pout.

The newlywed was missing her spouse Adam, who can often be seen running errands with her.

Anne just walked down the aisle with the man of her dreams and now she has set her sights on starting a family of her own.

The Les Miserables star revealed that she ‘really wants a baby’ – once she has sorted out the practicalities of married life.

‘I really want to have a baby, and my husband and I are like, “Where are we gonna live?”‘
