Kate Garraway, a familiar face on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, has revealed an exciting new career venture that takes her beyond the morning talk show.

On Thursday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, the 57-year-old broadcaster joined co-hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid to discuss her latest project
a celebrity role on the highly anticipated Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer.
Kate, who has been a mainstay on the ITV breakfast show for years, was thrilled to share her involvement in the charity version of the beloved baking competition.

The special series is set to return to Channel 4 on March 16, bringing together a fresh batch of celebrity contestants

who will compete in baking challenges to raise money for cancer research.

Among the star-studded lineup are Roman Kemp, Jamali Maddix, and Maxine Peake, all of whom will join Kate in the kitchen to showcase their baking skills. The show will follow the familiar format of The Great British Bake Off, with contestants facing off in three different challenges each week: the signature bake, the technical bake, and the showstopper. Each episode will conclude with one celebrity being crowned “Star Baker” – a title that carries as much pride as it does pressure!
During her appearance on Good Morning Britain, Kate shared a few light-hearted moments with her co-presenters. Ed Balls jokingly asked, “Did you have a soggy bottom?” to which Kate humorously responded, “I always have a soggy bottom, Ed, as you well know!” Ed quickly clarified with a laugh, “I mean in cookery terms!” The exchange set the tone for Kate’s excitement about the baking experience, although she kept tight-lipped about her performance, saying, “A lot of surfaces got covered but brilliant. I can’t give anything away though.”
Kate’s participation in The Great Celebrity Bake Off marks an exciting shift in her career, expanding her portfolio beyond news and current affairs to include a fun and competitive charity event. She expressed her enjoyment of the challenge, though she remained tight-lipped about the specifics of her baking abilities or the outcome of her efforts. Like the other celebrities, she will be doing her part to raise funds for the Stand Up To Cancer campaign, which has become a major initiative in the fight against cancer.

The upcoming series of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer will also feature a few changes behind the scenes. Caroline Waldegrave, former co-owner and managing director of the renowned Leiths School of Food and Wine, will be joining Paul Hollywood as a judge for the celebrity special. Caroline, who is a long-time friend of original judge Prue Leith, will step in as Prue takes a break from the series this year. This change is significant, as Prue had previously decided to step away from the celebrity version of the show due to the intense filming schedule. In an interview with This Morning, Prue clarified that her departure from the celebrity series was not permanent, but rather a decision based on her desire for more downtime to explore new places.
Prue explained, “These things are filmed back-to-back all the way through summer from April to August, so you don’t get any time off. I’m getting quite old, and there are places I want to see.” Her decision to step back from the celebrity edition of Bake Off has raised some speculation, but she made it clear that it was simply a matter of needing a break, not a permanent exit from the show.
Kate Garraway’s new venture on The Great Celebrity Bake Off comes at an exciting time in her career, showing her versatility and willingness to embrace new opportunities. While she continues her role on Good Morning Britain, her appearance on the Channel 4 baking show adds a fresh dimension to her already impressive career. It also serves as a reminder of her ability to balance her serious news duties with lighter, more fun projects that allow her to connect with viewers in different ways.

As the Great Celebrity Bake Off returns to Channel 4, fans will be eager to see Kate’s baking prowess (or lack thereof) and cheer her on as she raises money for a cause close to many people’s hearts.
