ITV Loose Women Janet Street-Porter’s secret health battle months after major surgery

Janet Street-Porter shocked *Loose Women* viewers when she opened up about her hair loss,

revealing that it began after she underwent hip replacement surgery last October.

The 77-year-old presenter shared the personal details with her fellow panellists, Jane Moore, Brenda Edwards, and Linda Robson,

explaining how her hair started thinning as part of her recovery process.

During the ITV show on January 13, Janet explained that she noticed significant hair loss when brushing her hair after the surgery.

“Since I had the hip replacement at the beginning of October, I noticed quite a lot of my hair was falling out,” she said.

Her hairdresser confirmed that her hair was thinning, and when she consulted her doctor, he explained that hair loss following major surgery is a common occurrence.

The candid admission from Janet surprised many viewers, as hair thinning is a well-known side effect of physical trauma or stress to the body, such as surgery. While the hair loss can be distressing, Janet emphasized that it is a temporary condition related to the surgery and has been a part of her overall recovery journey.

Janet’s story resonates with many who have experienced similar challenges following surgery. In fact, hair loss after surgery, known as telogen effluvium, is a phenomenon where hair follicles enter the resting phase prematurely due to the physical or emotional stress of the procedure. For Janet, her doctor reassured her that the shedding was a typical side effect and that her hair would eventually regrow.

In addition to dealing with hair loss, Janet revealed that her recovery from hip surgery was a difficult process. After the operation, she had to undergo intensive therapy to regain her strength and mobility. She spoke about the physical difficulties she faced post-surgery, including suffering from brain fog, disrupted sleep patterns, and struggling to lie down on her back. These challenges are often faced by individuals who undergo major surgery, and Janet was no exception.

Despite the obstacles she encountered, Janet found some unexpected sources of comfort during her recovery. “The one thing I have discovered is a raised toilet seat. It is a life-changing experience,” she quipped, providing a moment of levity amid her recovery struggles. This light-hearted comment brought some humor to the conversation, showing how Janet is finding humor even in the more challenging aspects of her recovery.

The surgery itself was no small feat. Janet had been living with significant pain before the procedure, and she explained how her spine had become misaligned. “I was in a lot of pain and hunched before. With pain, you work through it, and by the time I had the surgery, it was bad,” she recalled. Janet shared that her surgeon revealed her spine had shifted by two inches, leaving her lopsided, but after the surgery, she was standing straighter and in less pain. This positive change has been a significant part of her recovery, as Janet is now able to move more freely without the constant discomfort she previously endured.

Throughout her recovery process, Janet has kept her fans and followers updated on her journey, sharing photos of her progress on social media. One memorable post was a selfie taken in her hospital bed, where she looked upbeat despite the challenges she was facing. In subsequent posts, she shared images of herself exercising, which was an important part of her rehabilitation. These updates showed her determination and resilience as she worked to regain her strength after such a major operation.

Janet’s openness about her health struggles serves as an inspiration to many, showing that even at 77, she continues to face life’s challenges head-on. Her willingness to discuss topics like hair loss and the realities of recovery highlights her authenticity and relatability, making her even more beloved by her fans.

While Janet’s hair loss may be temporary, her strength and spirit are undeniable, and her journey is one that many will continue to follow with admiration.
