Hoda Kotb kicked off her Fourth of July celebrations with an unexpected fashion mishap during Today with Hoda & Jenna.
The longtime Today anchor, 59, shared her struggle with an ill-fitting red dress during Thursday’s holiday-themed episode,
leading to a humorous exchange with co-host Jenna Bush Hager, 42.
An Outfit Gone Wrong
From the moment the episode began, Kotb was noticeably uncomfortable in her festive attire.
She wasted no time confessing to Bush Hager that her ensemble was giving her trouble.
“The bra’s not working. The outfit doesn’t work. The bra’s too big, the straps are too small. I can’t do it,” Kotb admitted on air.
“You know when you wear a dress that you shouldn’t wear it?”
Despite her discomfort, Kotb decided to push through, explaining that sometimes you just go with an outfit, even if it doesn’t feel right. “You know when you’re like, ‘Everything’s hanging out. It’s not right.’ But you know what? I just decided I’m going to do it,” she said.
However, she also acknowledged the downside of forcing a fashion choice that isn’t quite right. “Have you ever gone to a party and gone, ‘It’s fine.’ And then you spend the whole party pulling and shoving and stuffing? It’s not good.”
Jenna Bush Hager’s Encouragement to ‘Let Go’
As the conversation continued, Bush Hager chimed in, sympathizing with Kotb’s predicament. “Or you have too much cleavage and you don’t love it to begin with,” she said, to which Kotb quickly responded, “I don’t want it. I don’t want it, it’s too much.”
Feeling like she was “falling out” of her dress, Kotb entertained the idea of adjusting her outfit but was not open to one suggestion—removing her bra altogether.
“Will you ever just free your boobs?” Bush Hager playfully asked, prompting an immediate and firm response from Kotb: “No! No! No!”
Refusing to drop the topic, Bush Hager doubled down. “Free your boobs, Hoda. It’s time,” she joked. “At this point in your life when you’re turning almost 60, free your boobs. Let’s free them.”
As Kotb continued to laugh off the suggestion, Bush Hager even offered to help, asking, “You want me to take your bra off for you?”
An amused but adamant Kotb quickly shut her down. “No, I don’t!” she said, as Bush Hager attempted to convince her that she could “do it real quick and slide it through.”
Despite Bush Hager’s persistence, Kotb made it crystal clear: “The answer’s no.”
A Show Known for Playful Banter
This lighthearted moment is just the latest in a long line of funny and candid conversations between the two co-hosts. Today with Hoda & Jenna has become known for its unfiltered discussions, and this wasn’t the first time the topic of wardrobe malfunctions or personal moments came up.
Earlier in the week, Bush Hager had shared a humorous anecdote about her 4-year-old son, Hal, commenting on her body while she got dressed.
“Recently while I’m getting dressed—if I do makeup, hair, outfit—which is what I like, Hal likes to come in there and say, ‘Look at your nickels. I like your nickels,'” she revealed.
Clarifying her son’s innocent mistake, she added, “Now he’s talking about something else… it’s nipples. But he said, ‘Look at your big nickels.’ And then I feel a little humiliated in my own home.”
Hoda Kotb’s Fun-Filled Summer
Kotb has been embracing plenty of carefree moments this summer, including an experience she recently shared about going skinny dipping with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 4.
On the June 24 episode of Today, while chatting with guest host Sheinelle Jones, Kotb excitedly recalled the spontaneous moment.
“We skinny-dipped! It was so fun! My kids were screaming. They were literally shrieking with delight,” she shared.
Why Fans Love Hoda & Jenna
Moments like these highlight why Today with Hoda & Jenna continues to resonate with audiences. The dynamic between Kotb and Bush Hager is filled with humor, honesty, and authenticity, making their morning conversations relatable for viewers.
Whether they’re discussing wardrobe mishaps, parenting moments, or spontaneous adventures, their chemistry keeps the show lighthearted and entertaining. Kotb’s willingness to laugh at herself—and Bush Hager’s enthusiastic encouragement—make them one of the most beloved duos on daytime television.
