Jenna Bush Hager shocks viewers with unexpected replacement news on Today with Hoda & Jenna

The Today Show is embarking on a significant transition as it prepares for a new chapter without longtime host Hoda Kotb.

The beloved television personality recently announced her decision to step away from her leading role, leaving fans and colleagues reflecting on her impact and legacy.

Following Hoda’s emotional announcement, NBC has officially revealed her replacement. Craig Melvin, a familiar face on the network, has been named as her successor.

He will join Savannah Guthrie as the new co-anchor of the esteemed morning show.

The change marks a new phase for the program, with Craig bringing his own style and experience to the role.

Meanwhile, adjustments are also being made to the fourth hour of the show, previously co-hosted by Hoda and Jenna Bush Hager.

Instead of introducing a new permanent co-host, the segment will be rebranded as Today with Jenna & Friends. Jenna will now be joined by a rotating lineup of guest hosts, allowing for dynamic conversations and fresh perspectives. Over the years, various personalities such as Justin Sylvester, Michelle Buteau, and Willie Geist have stepped in when needed, and this new format will continue to feature engaging and diverse voices.

During a heartfelt broadcast, Hoda and Jenna shared the news with their audience. Jenna expressed her excitement about the evolving format, jokingly stating, “I’m single and ready to mingle. It’s going to be all about friendship.” The decision to shift to a rotating roster of co-hosts highlights Jenna’s ability to connect with different personalities, a skill that has endeared her to viewers since she joined the show in 2019.

As the show undergoes these changes, emotions have been running high among the Today family. Jenna became visibly emotional while expressing her gratitude to Hoda, saying, “We have had a beautiful ride. I’m going to miss you!” Her heartfelt words captured the bittersweet nature of the transition—while colleagues and fans will deeply miss Hoda’s presence, they also support her decision and celebrate her journey forward.

Hoda’s departure, set for January 10, is a deeply personal choice. Reflecting on her decision, she shared that turning 60 was a major factor in reassessing her priorities. She described how reaching this milestone prompted her to consider what the next decade of her life should hold. Ultimately, she realized it was time for a new chapter—one that allows her to dedicate more time to her two daughters, Hope and Haley.

During her announcement, Hoda spoke candidly about the significance of this decision, saying, “It was such a monumental moment for me when I turned 60 years old because I started thinking about that decade—like what does that decade mean, what does it hold, what’s it going to have for me? And I realized that it was time for me to turn the page and try something new.” She further emphasized the importance of prioritizing her children, noting, “They deserve a better piece of my time pie.”

As her co-hosts and friends processed the news, emotions ran high. Savannah Guthrie, who has worked alongside Hoda for over a decade, became teary-eyed while honoring her dear friend. “Hoda, we love you so much, and when you look around and you see these tears and love… you are so loved,” she expressed. “Honestly, I don’t think any of us can imagine—we don’t want to imagine—this place without you, so it’s complicated because we love you so much and we don’t want you to ever go.”

Hoda’s departure marks the end of an era, but her influence on the Today Show and its audience will not be forgotten. As she steps into the next phase of her life, viewers and colleagues alike will continue to support her and look forward to seeing where this new journey takes her. Meanwhile, the Today Show is embracing change with open arms, ushering in a new era with Craig Melvin and the exciting Today with Jenna & Friends format. Though Hoda’s absence will undoubtedly be felt, her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind on the beloved morning program.
