Jenna Bush Hager is known for her candid and often humorous storytelling, and her latest revelation on Jenna & Friends left her co-hosts in stitches.
The Today show star shared a particularly frustrating experience from her first pregnancy—her husband, Henry Hager,
scheduled a colonoscopy just days before she was due to give birth.
A Mistimed Medical Appointment
During the February 26 episode of Jenna & Friends, Bush Hager, 43, opened up about the incident
while chatting with guest comedians Heather McMahan, 37, and Rosebud Baker, 39.
The topic came up as the trio discussed Baker’s comedy special, The Motherload, which focuses on the chaotic and often hilarious realities of motherhood.
Mid-conversation, Bush Hager casually dropped the surprising detail:
“My husband got a colonoscopy like two days before [I gave birth],” she revealed before immediately realizing the potential fallout of her confession. Quickly, she added with a laugh, “Please don’t put this on the internet!”
Despite her hesitation, she continued to explain why the timing of the procedure had been so frustrating for her.
“I was like, ‘Why are you scheduling this appointment right now? I could be going into labor, but here I am picking you up from the clinic,'” she recalled.
Her co-hosts couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. Baker jokingly suggested that Henry might have been seeking attention at a time when all focus was on his pregnant wife.
“Yes, because he’s like, ‘I want my time to shine,’” Baker quipped.
Understanding a Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is a medical procedure in which a doctor inserts a flexible tube with a small camera into the rectum to examine the colon. The test is typically used to detect abnormalities like inflammation, polyps, or early signs of colon cancer. While the exam itself is routine and generally important for long-term health, Bush Hager’s frustration stemmed from the unfortunate timing.
Jenna and Henry’s Growing Family
Bush Hager gave birth to her first child, daughter Mila, on April 13, 2013. She and Henry Hager have since expanded their family, welcoming daughters Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5.
The couple, who tied the knot on May 10, 2008, in a beautiful ceremony at the Bush family ranch in Crawford, Texas, have maintained a strong partnership over the years. However, like any marriage, they’ve had their share of comical and frustrating moments—including Henry’s ill-timed medical appointment.
Jenna’s History of Candid Pregnancy Stories
This isn’t the first time Bush Hager has opened up about unique experiences surrounding her pregnancies. Earlier this month, she shocked her Today co-host, Ego Nwodim, with another unexpected pregnancy story.
While discussing men attending female-dominated workout classes, Bush Hager recalled that on the day she gave birth to Mila, she had actually attended a SoulCycle class.
“On the day my first child was born, she was very early,” Bush Hager said, before revealing, “And I went to a SoulCycle class.”
Nwodim and the Today crew audibly gasped at the revelation, prompting Bush Hager to reassure them:
“She was very early! Don’t gasp at me!”
An Unforgettable Gym Encounter
She went on to explain that she was around 35 and a half weeks pregnant at the time and had no idea she would be giving birth so soon. While she was on the stationary bike, an outspoken fellow gym-goer made a comment about her appearance.
“I was on the bike, and this guy behind me goes, ‘Girl, you’re huge! We’re gonna have to carry you out like a Trojan horse!'” Bush Hager recalled.
Nwodim was stunned and asked if she had really been nine months pregnant at the time.
“I was eight and a half,” Bush Hager clarified. “She came at like 35 and a half weeks or something, she was early.”
Though she tried to laugh off the insensitive comment, she admitted it was a moment she’d never forget.
“I was like, ‘Oh wait, now I don’t mind if you come to the class, but please don’t comment on my size!'”
Nwodim was unimpressed by the comparison, responding, “Yeah, I don’t like that.”
Bush Hager agreed, saying, “I don’t either.”
Jenna’s Unfiltered Humor Keeps Fans Engaged
Bush Hager’s ability to poke fun at her own experiences, whether it’s an awkward moment at the gym or her husband’s questionable timing with medical procedures, is part of what makes her so relatable. Her honesty about motherhood, marriage, and everyday frustrations continues to resonate with fans, making her a beloved fixture on Today.
Though Henry’s colonoscopy mishap may have been poorly timed, it’s now just another hilarious chapter in Bush Hager’s ever-growing collection of family stories.
