Jennifer Lawrence held the firm belief that her life was in jeopardy when the private plane she was aboard experienced engine failure. But what really happened during that flight?
Jennifer Lawrence Recalled Her Harrowing Experience
In a conversation with Vanity Fair, the Academy Award-winning actress recounted a harrowing experience that occurred during the summer of 2017.
A private plane departing from her hometown of Kentucky en route to New York City was forced to execute an emergency landing in Buffalo.
The Silver Linings Playbook actress recounted that all that remained in her seat was her skeleton. She clarified that the plane had suffered engine failure, forcing them into an emergency landing, as one of its two engines had malfunctioned.
“My skeleton was all that was left in the seat. We were all just going to die. I started leaving little mental voicemails to my family, you know, ‘I’ve had a great life, I’m sorry.’”
Jennifer Lawrence shared her emotions during the terrifying incident when she believed her plane might crash due to an in-flight engine failure. She expressed feelings of guilt, anticipating disappointment among those on board. She particularly lamented the presence of her dog, Pippi, on her lap, as the little canine had no choice in being part of the ordeal.
The actress described her reaction upon spotting the runway below, where ambulances and fire trucks were stationed, as a moment when she began to fervently pray.
Jennifer Lawrence Got Drunk for Her Next Flight
Jennifer Lawrence expressed that she didn’t pray to the God of her upbringing, as that deity appeared imposing and excessively judgmental.
Lawrence continued:
“Not to the specific God I grew up with, because he was terrifying and a very judgmental guy,” she added. “But I thought, Oh my God, maybe we’ll survive this? I’ll be a burn victim, this will be painful but maybe we’ll live.”
The jet seemingly made contact with the runway, rebounded, and subsequently touched down once more before coming to a stop. Despite the necessity for rescue teams to force the doors open, there were fortunately no injuries reported. Lawrence then had to embark on another flight, finding solace in a sizeable pill and a few small bottles of rum to numb the experience.
