Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are shown to be working together once again in the trailer for Joy released on Wednesday.
The film will mark the fourth time since 2012 that the 24-year-old actress and 40-year-old-actor have been cast together and the third time the dynamic duo have joined director David O. Russell.
The short clip primarily focuses on Jennifer’s character, Joy Mangano, who seems to be struggling juggling work and family life but pushes through with grit and determination.
It opens up with a silhouette of an older woman telling a younger girl: ‘Listen to me, I’ll going to tell you what’s going to become of you, you are going to grow up and become a strong, smart young woman.
‘Go to school, meet a fine young man, have beautiful children of your own and you’re going to build wonderful things and that is what is going to happen to you.’
Then a Christmas choir version of Rolling Stones hit You Can’t Always Get What You Want kicks in as scenes of Joy having papers thrown in her face at her job,
crying at a funeral and getting on her hands and knees to scrub a floor are shown.
There are also happy moments including a wedding, a warm welcome embrace from her daughter and hanging the child’s drawings up on the wall.
Then as Joy looks down with bright production lights beaming down on her, she says in an inner monologue: ‘Don’t ever think that the world owes you anything, because it doesn’t.’
More clips are shown which include Joy being put behind bars and flashes of Bradley’s and Robert De Niro’s characters.
It concludes with Joy firing off a couple shotgun blasts in the middle of what looks like a parking lot as she takes a sigh of relief and says: ‘My name is Joy, by the way.’
The film is centred around a family across four generations and the woman, played by Jennifer, who rises to become founder to a powerful family business empire through the invention of the Miracle Mop.
Cooper plays an executive at the Home Shopping network who helps Joy and De Niro plays her father in the biographical comedy-drama movie.
The two other times that Jennifer, Bradley and director David have worked together have proven to be quite successful as both Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle received Oscar-nominations.
The starlet’s performance in Silver Linings Playbook even earned her an Oscar in the Best Actress category at the 2013 Academy Awards.
Jen and Bradley also worked together on 2014 Depression-era drama Serena.
The upcoming flick also stars Édgar Ramírez, Dascha Polanko, Elisabeth Röhm, Isabella Rossellini and Diane Ladd.
Joy is set for release on Christmas Day.
