Anyone who has ever worn a floor-length dress combined with dizzyingly high heels will be familiar with this thought: “Please, please don’t fall over now.” 

Because in just a few seconds, a glamorous appearance can turn into an absolute nightmare.

The shoe gets tangled in the dress, you lose your balance – and bang, you’re lying on the floor. Or on the stairs. 

The stairs to the most important stage in the world: the Oscar stage. That ‘s exactly what happened to Jennifer Lawrence (32) in 2013. 

Millions of people watched as the 22-year-old award winner fell on the way to her award. 

A traumatic experience for the Hollywood star. For a long time, the “fall thing was a very sensitive topic,” as she later said in Heather McMahan’s podcast “Absolutely Not.” 

But it seems as if the now 32-year-old has learned something from it. On the red carpet of the 76th International Film Festival in Cannes, Jennifer surprised everyone with an unusual choice of shoes. 

While she initially wore pointed high heels with an XXL wine-red gown, she was seen late in the evening wearing casual black flip-flops, which in no way detracted from her fairytale appearance. If you want to be beautiful, you don’t have to suffer – or even fall.
